Default carpet cleaning

Hey guys!

So I figure it's time to clean the carpets. We've lived in our apartment over a year now. It's getting pretty messy over by Miss Gracie's cage. My carpet has an orange tint! lol (must be from the Gracie poop! lol)

I borrowed a carpet cleaner from the bf's dad. They told us to use "Resolve" carpet cleaner in it. I guess it's the only kind they use in their cleaner. It doesn't say pet safe or anything like that on the back of the bottle.

Does anyone know if this stuff is really bad for birdies? I know I'm going to move Gracie and her cage into our bedroom just to be safe. But I thought it couldn't hurt asking what you all thought.

Thanks!!

I don't know about Resolve but I did read on a forum once about someone's parrot dying after carpet cleaning.

I have a Bissel small cleaner and the way I did it or do it all the time for spots is/was first I sprayed GSE diluted in water which is my normal house stuff I use....then I take a white cloth or towel which I use a bunch of for cleaning everything ...and wipe the area.

Usually a bunch of dirt comes up. Specially when my son and friends with size thirteen shoes are visiting. And even if a bunch of dirt doesnt come up I see the dirt disappear or disolve.

THEN after spot cleaning I put VERY diluted Bissel cleaner in the machine or even sometimes just GSE water....and do a cleaning but not soaked.

I open all the windows and run my air cleaner. Its pretty heavy duty.

I also do it at dusk when they go to bed and don't let them in the room till the next day after like ten or eleven or so.

Maybe others will know a safe cleaner but if you go to the GSE website they have all the applications and volumes you need and I seem to remember seeing one for using in a carpet cleaner.

There's also this stuff called Folex not for the machine for spots though. I got mine at Target white spray bottle with purple lettering. I used it for BERRIES on carpet and it comes RIGHT UP this stuff is the bomb. BUT I dont use it around birds. I had a dog with a food problem and it worked ALL The time on everything. So for orange spots that might work so you dont have to use the carpet machine as MUCH if you can get the bulk up with the Folex.

It doesnt have any odor but even NON odorous chemicals can kill so I dont go by that....

Found this over on Winged Wisdom;

Carpet shampoos may contain toxic ingredients such as ammonia and perchlorethylene, a known carcinogen. Plant-based cleaning products, such as citrus cleaners are preferable. Use a steam cleaning machine with ten to fifteen drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract per gallon of water. Many hospitals now use GSE for carpet cleaning.
