Default Found Dove !!

I found a dove yesterday, and took he/she home with me. The dove was first spotted on monday in fairless hills outside the Petland and decided to make a return yesterday. The dove is tame and totally white I am presuming the bird was at pet at some point, there is no band. So I'm not sure how realistic it would be for me to try and find a home, lol. But I will try anyway, but if someone is interested in giving the bird a home let me know. I am located in bucks county,PA.

Thanks,
Cassie

If it was outside of a pet store...perhaps it escaped.
Did you check with them? Pet stores often sell Dove.
Was it in any danger or injured?
I guess what I am asking is why you removed it from where you found it?

Susan-

I work at the store where I found her, sorry I didnt mention that. She kept coming in and out of the back of the store (we left the door open for her) she has a bald spot on the top of her head with a dried up scab. She steps up and the owner said that because she was feral she couldnt stay,so I took her home. Shes eating and drinking the dove food, millet, gravel, etc seems to like her cage and is exploring the quarentine room as I type...

I didnt want to handle her too much but since I'm off work today I rinsed the blood out of her tail and felt her chest and keel bone area and she is skinny as a rail. I can literally bring both sides of her body together between my thumb and index finger. She is also missing some feathers around both eyes...

Thanks for taking the little one in and caring for her! Any chance of getting her to the vet? Is she eating/drinking? Any idea what caused the blood on the tail?

Are ya sure this little one is a Dove, any pictures?
I can offer this bird a home here with me if needed.
Doves don't get along with my Pigeons but I do know some Dove keepers here.
Please help the little one regain his/her composer with some seed and fresh water, ad a pinch of salt and a pinch of sugar in the water to re-hydrate.
If possible care for the little one for a couple of weeks and keep us posted.
You can also try and find some Dove keepers near by you by posting to a bulletin board at local petshops...
Thank you again for all you have done for the bird of peace, you shine so brightly...
Let me/us know how things are going.
Arty

I'll head home and take some pictures of her (could be a boy lol). She is eating and drinking, (although I did not know of the salt/sugar trick with the water-but I'll go do that as soon as I get home). I feel bad keeping her cooped up in her cage so I have been letting her out to fly here and there (bad idea ?) I had her in a hospital cage yesterday with a heating pad, dark secluded area but she is perching eating and drinking today. She is still in my quaretine room, she looks a little better after I rinsed her tail a bit (what caused the blood I'm not sure her feathers are stained a brownish color on different spots of her body) I didnt want to give her a bath like I do my cockatoos or anything so just a quick rinse. She is eating the pigeon/dove mix I brought home for her, and the millet, should I be feeding her something else ? I can care for her as long as she needs me I just wanted to be sure I was doing the right things for her and wondered if she would do better in someone elses more experienced hands. I have given basic care to the doves at BP but never a lost/possibly sick one. Vut I thank you for all and any advice : )

The Dove & Pigeon mix is great...this is all they need..
The Salt and Sugar is a wringers solution to help re-hydrate, Gatorade also works well.
You are doing a fine job...
The heating pad should only cover half the bottom so the bird can get away from the heat if things get to warm.
A good bath and looking over will help you see if there is an injury, The spots you speak of tell me this bird was injured in some form, maybe shot with a bb gun...MAYBE?????
Maybe a small puncture would....but something has happened to this bird, a good looking over will be needed.
The bird is perching, this is a good sign...
Keep up your kind ways and all should be fine...
Your gonna fall in love with the bird of peace....
