Okay - I finally got some good pics this morning. He's so funny. I let him out on top of his cage for a bath. He was walking around the dish growling, then he would say, "be a good boy, Rico!" and then he would laugh this little evil sounding laugh. He did that over and over again, till he finally got into the dish and started bathing. He even played with some toys a bit this morning! I still haven't tried to handle him. When we open up his cage door he lunges and hisses and then jumps to the back of his cage. So just taking things slow till he's comfortable. (you can see he's molting - he's like a little green porcupine!)
Thanks guys. He didn't get as wet as I would have liked him to. But at least he was comfortable enough to get a little wet. Maybe he needs a little bit bigger dish? I actually got him to eat some millet while I was holding it today! I thought my arm might fall off before he finally decided it was safe to come grab a bite, but once he took the 1st bite - it didn't take him long to come back for more. I guess it's progress.
Your doing a great job Steph, Be patient sweetheart, in no time at all your new friend will be your best friend, our Quakers bathe once a week, sometimes 2 times per week.
I love all you have done, the toys and such are simply wonderful...
Thanks Arty. Rico was so cute last night. He's been playing with the toys on the boing - but wasn't brave enough to get onto the boing itself. Last night he finally decided to give it a try. He would put 1 foot on, but then it would start moving some, so he would get off and yell at it and bite it. LOL Then he would calm down, look at it a bit, and try again. He did this several times. Finally, he put 1 foot on, grabbed it with his beak, waited for it to stop moving and slowly put his other foot on. He stayed there with both feet planted and holding on with his beak till it once again stopped moving. When it was still, he slowly let go with his beak and stood up straight. He looked so pleased with himself! LOL It didn't take very long for him to start to get comfortable with the movement of the boing and move around on it.
I have taken out the dowel perches and added the new ones in and new toys. He's been playing and chewing on his toys and moving around on the new perches. I think he likes them!
Today I have to take out his happy hut and look it over real good. I noticed a thread hanging down inside of it last night after he climbed into it for bed time. I was really tempted to do it last night - but I was afraid of upsetting him by trying to get him out and then take the tent out. I'll check it out today and see if I can just cut the hanging thread or see if it has to be thrown away. If it does have to be thrown out - guess I'll making the 40 mile trip to the pet store to get a new one. Don't want him to be upset at bed time!
