Oh wow Leigh, your bird room is gorgeous! I must ask, where did you get those cages? Somewhere online? Everywhere here is big and expensive, granted not an issue, but I don't own a truck to get a huge cage to my home. I have been looking for a cage for Budah (should he come home to me that is)

I just love those cages. They look so sturdy and big. Only way to make them better is so be stainless steel. I have Tolouse in a big ol' stainless steel cage but am looking to find something bigger for Budah and for Maurice as well.

So where did you get those cages at?

The big black cages are A&E, I honestly dont recommend them. They are inexpensive in comparison to say Avian Adventure or Kings but simply not worth the savings. The platinum cage is Avian Adventure Chiquita model. That is a much better quality cage. The tray sits in nice and tight with no room for food to sneek out. And the door latches are knobs so those sneaky cockatoos really have to work hard to figure it out. My too put her time in and figured it out! You can find that for free shipping at Exotic birds for sale parrots-macaws-eclectus-conures-Island Cages at birdfarm.com. The problem with he black cages is the tray does not slide all the way in, leaving a rim for food to catch on and it makes a mess. The cages are also uneven when screwed together. I found out the hard way its just better to spend a little more now for a beter cage! Where do you live?

Well if you don't like the cages why do you bother keeping them? I mean, I know all about bad cages (been there myself) but replacing them is pretty easy, albiet a little expensive. What store did you originally get them from? How much did you pay for the 'lesser' cages? I think it is a good thing to know who is supplying cages that are less than quality so others don't bother with getting the same brand.

I know that I am a huge fan of stainless steel (if you have the money of course) Slowly those prices are coming down, but since I do keep a Hyacinth macaw, he needed to have the best and something he couldn't destroy. I have my Maurice, the caique, in a huge flight aviary like cage but I am not happy with it because that coating makes cleaning so hard. But most stainless steel cages meant for a 'little bird' are way too small for such an active bird. If I could I would get my little guy the same cage I have my Hy in. He deserves it.

Im in the process of ordering new cages now. We will replace all 4 with Mediana models by Avain Adventure. Im ordering from the Exotic birds for sale parrots-macaws-eclectus-conures-Island Cages at birdfarm.com site. They have AWESOME prices!

Ah well I know that site well. I often like to 'screen shop' online to find the best deals and what not. Drives Paul crazy, knowing I am one click away from having yet another cage here to fill. I love him though and he understands my passion for parrots!

I got your PM and I know all about that 'situation'. Have others been warned about, um, someone selling these cages to unknowing people? How much were the cages you bought? Did they over charge? I have seen some really bad looking cages at stores that have been over priced and low quality.

It really gets my goat knowing people take advantage of others who are new to parrots. I mean, not everyone can afford the stainless steels but in the very least they ought to provide better cages. If you look on eBay at the cages, most sellers are selling them for wholesale prices. How can a store owner charge 1000 for a macaw sized cage (that is still in a box in the back, so not taking up any more space) that only cost them 300 to begin with?

Now I am not saying that all stores do this, but the mark ups are almost ridiculous.

Oh and Afa is adorable
