I left the living room for literally less than a minute to check if my tub drained yet (plumbing problems). and I hear a noise, I run back in and Carmen is sitting right next to Papi on Papi's cage. Papi was not angry like he would be when the other fids try to invade. Instead he was making a weird whining noise, then started to regurgitate! and carmen actually open up her beak and started to reach for his as if she was going to eat from him. Thats when I snatched her up and put her to sleep (I was affraid of them atually touhing and of any bacteria in the fiid papi was throwing up.... EWWW). After I did that, I went back to Papi and he puffs up and puts his head out asking for a scritch. Then he jumps on my arm and decided it was cuddle time with me. It was so adorable, we cuddled on the couch for almost an hour.

He would never let the other fids anywhere near him, never mind the cage. When I play with the baby, he talks up a storm. I think his vocabulary has grown since I brought Carmen home and he does all sorts of tricks and stuff when I'm near her. I figured he was jealous that she was with me, but mabe hes showing off for her . Even though shes just a baby and a different type, does he realize that shes an Amazon as well, could that be why he seems to like her? Any ideas on his behavior?

It could be both, He is jealous of your time with her and he is a mature male so he might be interested in her.

and Carmen is not definitley female. We are just assuming she is (guessing bassically). I didnt think this was a sexual thing because she is so young, but could Papi sence if she is a boy or girl, or is it just instinct to feed a baby?

I think instinct to feed a baby, my birds are always stealing/ feeding each other.

Aww Papi was trying to take care of little baby Carmen. That's so cute and gross (the regurgitating thing) all at the same time! lol

I think Papi is a winner, with the way he's behaving with Carmen. S/he deserves extra cuddle time and treats.

It would be very interesting to me to know whether Papi is a male or a female. My sister has a male DYH who simply loves my 'zons. He's awesome with all of the birds, as a matter of fact. People, not so much.

Are you absolutely sure that because they're two types of zon's they can't cross breed? Maybe just maybe you could leave their cages a little closer together so they could talk to each other and observe their behavior too. I know she's just a baby but I think it'd be cuter than ever to see Romeo and Juliet played out in your livingroom XD

I'm no expert, but believe it's possible for them to crossbreed. My Abigail is a cross between an OWA and a YCA and is a most successful result. She's as sweet as can be.

So Papi is a male. Well, to me it sounds like parental behavior -- but again, I'm no expert.
