Default Plums...Who'da Thunk??

Ollie is a plum fanatic. I don't think I've ever stocked them since I've gotten her, but the other day at the store I saw them and got a craving. She snuck a nibble before I could stop her so I got online to make sure they were okay for her to eat. After that I let her have a little more. She went crazy- and not just tearing it up! She ate every bit! I think she'd have easily devoured the entire thing if I hadn't of stopped her!

Does anybody else have any birds that like plums?

Bella seems to have a thing for fruit peroid. I'll have to see if she would enjoy a plum once the local crops start coming into market.

Eve goes nuts for plums too, but I thought the pit was toxic? I get confused because it seems that in the US people think, peach, nectarines, and plum pits are bad, but in the UK they feed their birds (fruit stones) all the time? Does anybody have a definitive answer on this?

I don't ever give Ollie any fruit pits or seeds (exception: pomegranate). Mostly because I can never remember what is safe, and what's not. It seems that there are discrepancies between lists on what's safe and what's not, so I just err on the side of caution.

Here is a link:

Basic Bird Care Guide for Parrots and Other Hookbills (Under 'Absolute No-Nos")

That one mentions all fruit pits being bad, but on most other sites I came across it just lists specifically cherry pits. I'm having a hard time finding reputable sites so I'm giving up.

Gracie has never had plums. She LOVES grapes. So I'm guessing she'd think the plum was a huge grape and she'd like it. lol

I'm going to have to get some now!
