Default Picky

I know eclectus are supposed to be the 'bottomless pits' but Lucy is so picky! I have taken her off pellets and she doesn't want anything! I have been giving her a little bit (3 tbs) of seed daily as well as her fruits, veggies and her meal (beans and rice, eggs, sweet potato, birdie bread, kind of the extra food thats not fruits or veggies). However, she will not eat it! She doesn't touch her fruits or veggies, and maybe will eat her meal.

I've tried eating it and making it sound really good, but she still won't eat it. Any suggestions?

If they aren't used to food changes it can take awhile for them to adjust. I was taught to not just take away what they are used to eating, but gradually limit it and increasing the amount of what you want her to eat. BUT, if the pellets are the problem you sure do't want her back at them. It may just be that she is used to a dry diet? There are many good ones out there that I feed Sophie. Birdelicious, Goldenfeast, Ultimate Blend, and a few others that Sophie will eat.

Lucy still has the pellets, but I'm gradually decreasing them. I think all they fed her fresh wise was apples, because that is the only thing she eats.

Have you tried making the veggies into toys? Like carrot perches and such? Sometimes it's the size or way the food items are presented that is the problem. Eve only eats grapes if they are whole, he likes to squeeze the juice out, otherwise it's floor of the grapes! Greens have to be big wet bunches and hanging. Try different cut up sizes, shapes and things.

when I first started using Mike's manna mash there were a number of people on his sight who had had very picky birds turn into mash heads after a period of time. Which was one of the main selling points, figuratively speaking, for me.

CORN! I have yet to meet an Eclectus that isn't wild for it! Add some- Sweet corn, 'Plumped' corn... They all seem to LOVE it.

Mine eats Harrisons pellets, in addition to all the fresh food... She loves it. But- She won't turn down ANY meal for the most part

I thought corn had been linked to either toe tapping or feather picking (in ekkies). Is that not right?

I have heard that dried/cracked corn causes it, but not fresh corn. I know peanuts are a no-no, they are really bad for ekkies, and there are peanuts in her pellets which could play a part in her plucking...

Hmmmm , maybe that's why I always find myself grabbing my umbrella while heading for the curb when it starts raining - only happens though on the rainy days right after I down a couple ears.

Singing in the Rain , I'm singing in the rain , what a glorious day when I'm singing in the rain and toe tapping along the "coib" tooooo ......
