#1 | | | Our Special Needs Birds I am starting this thread to share pics and stories of our “special needs” birds. If you have a special needs bird, and don’t worry what constitutes a “special needs” bird, please share. |

#5 | | | Re: Our Special Needs Birds Well I thought I had a special needs Budgie hen from the ASPCA. Bonded to a male. I could feel lipomas and when she got examined was told they couldnt estimate how long she'd live. She was flighted but not able to fly much, no stamina.
Pathetic feather, scrawny even now.
Guess what she's the first on OUT of the cage, flying around her heavy 45 gram body like crazy now, most vocal, most curious about her environment (most shy) but the one who enjoys life the most. You can see it. The outside birds dont miss her ears they yell back and forth.
Of course, now, that's because the brat Plet hen Piper has been trying to eliminate the hen and steal the spouse for a YEAR NOW. So I guess she's calling for a replacement mate.
So at this point, the only special need she has is the need to keep the brat away from her man.
I attribute her survival to flying, diet, Harrison's mash with seed am and fresh foods only with sprouts pm with some seed later on and Co Q10. |

#9 | | | Re: Our Special Needs Birds I've got a lot of special needs birds here...one-legged tiels, broken legged grey,
broken keel bone grey (new arrival)...I'll post about Pruitt though..
Pruitt is an age unknown BFA. Pruitt had hot oil thrown in his face years ago.
He has permanent feather loss, and only a clear eyelid on his eye. Passed from home to home due to severe aggression and constant screaming, his upper beak was broken off in his last foster home..he was screaming in a covered cage and a teenaged boy beat the front of the cage and broke Pruitt's beak off. I saw the cage - the entire front of it was bent in...I can only imagine what poor pruitt was thinking..
He hates everyone, but loves me. I can kiss him and scritch him and love on him. He cannot be out of cage if *anyone* else is in the house, or if any other birds are out. He has tried to kill dh more than once - the last time he *jumped* 21 ft to attack dh...
I love this bird to death...Dh has asked more than once for me to get rid of him...and every time I've told dh "I'll pack YOUR bags, and you can move out"
This bird is here to stay..no matter what. wendy |
