Default TAG or CAG or Mix? (HELP)

I was looking closer at her and she looks like she is a hybrid....I was given back up by Shane & angie.

http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...D/BIRDS004.jpg

That is Ira my supposed TAG, But now there is a debate she might be a mix because of her black beak. She isn't that old still not fully weaned. I want to know if she is a hybrid or just a oddball. SHe is such a special little gal.

Please tell me what you think

Their beak will get lighter with age. Around 4 months of age you should see it getting lighter. If it does not, then I don't know what to say.

Ollies beak went from black to very light from baby to 5 months old.

Grey hybrids aren't very common I don't think. Actually, I did a google search for 'african grey hybrid' and only got 1 valid hit. Somebody on here posted pictures of their baby TAG and many people thought for sure it was actually a CAG due to the dark beak. However, now that the TAG has aged the beak has lightened up tremendously. I would say based on the tail feather color, and the dark body feathers on your baby that he's a TAG. I'll bet his beak lightens as he ages.

^ That was me Camille. Scarlett had a very dark beak for awhile and everyone told me she was a CAG. But her tail very much looked like a TAG. Even my breeder said she had CAG in her family tree. Not sure if that is actually true or not though. But by the time she was weaned her beaked had started to get light and now you can definitley tell she is all TAG.

This is Scarlett the first time I met her. She was probably about 8 weeks old. Notice the very dark beak and the TAG looking tail feathers.

Here is a pic of her when she came home, you can see how light it got.

And a more recent pic at about 6 months.

I thought it was you Tiffany, but I wasn't sure. So many new grey babies lately! It's amazing to see the difference in Scarlett's beak with the side by side pictures.

Ms. Marlow had a much darker beak when she was young, but it has lightened considerably as she aged...

As I understand it, TAG/CAG mixes are VERY rare- I have heard that it isn't even possible as well? But, I don't know for sure... It seems that if it were possible/likely, there would be a lot of them around, since there are SO many people that have both!!

Also, CAG babies have bright red tails as babies. TAG's havea darker tail. I also think that CAG babies have a rounder head, but it could vary from bird to bird

Not true here! I think you can just count on it after their first molt. Here is Ollie as a baby. I've seen several other baby CAGs with TAG-looking tail feathers.

Here is her tail during her first molt. Some baby tail feathers, some bright red big girl tail feathers.

I've heard this also. That one hit of a supposed hybrid that I got while searching could have just been a misinformed owner. Interesting- I'll try to find some more information on this.

Camille- I have never seen a baby CAG with a TAG tail! Even Echo had a bright red tail as a baby, though it had some grey on it.
