Default Please Help Need Info. Asap

Hi, I need some info. on a dove or pigeon that has showed up in my tree a couple of weeks ago. It is pure white with some black on the back of its neck and tip of tail. It flies off at dusk each day and returns every morning around 10am. Where did it come from? It seems friendly but I cannot get too close to it. Any info. would be appreciated. Is it a homing pigeon? I checked for a band but it has no band on its leg. I have been feeding it fruits and wild bird seed. It seems to be staying under an overhang from my roof resting on a canvas canopy. I can send you pics of it if you need them.
Thanx for your help, Donna
I live in Deltona, Fl.

I can't tell you about what kind of pigeon it is- that's Arty's area and I'm sure he'll be along soon. The fruits and wild bird seed are without a doubt appreciated though. That's the bulk of what my pigeons get.

Here are some links to help you. If you still have problems please let us know!

Photo Bucket picture posting info
Gallery Photo Posting Instructions

You can also upload a picture directly from your hard drive as an attachment. I don't think we have posted instructions on how to do that.
You would hit the reply button to type your message (as I am doing right now). Scroll down and you will see some additional options. Under the heading 'Attach Files', click the button 'Manage Attachments'. A new window will open up and you will be able to upload and attach a picture right from your computer. There is a size limit which often frustrates me! IMO, using photobucket (the first link above) is the easiest way. Even if you don't already have an account, it's free and easy to set up.

Hope this helps!

Thanx so much for you reply and help. The pigeon that found its way to my house looks like one of yours. I will try to add some photos in. What I need to know is if I should leave the bird alone. It is starting to trust me each day more and more. Am I interupting with mother nature by feeding it? Does someone in the neighborhood own this bird? Should I stop feeding it? Mybe by me feeding it it won't go home anymore....hmmmm just a few questions I need answered since I do not know anything about these birds except they are not only beautiful but have the sweetest little coo sound! Any info. would be appreciated.
Kindly, Donna

If the bird has no band then its hard to tell if he/she belongs to anyone other than mother nature, there are many white pigeons with a splash of color that are Feral.
You mention the bird leaves at dusk and returns in the morning, "you have a visitor there", the bird maybe returning to there loft at evening and returning to visit you in the morning on his/her rounds, that is if the bird is owned by a human, this human maybe free flying his/her birds, or the bird is feral and is heading for safety at night and returning in the morning for your kind offer of seed and fruit.
Maybe you could offer a nice cool drink also, Pigeons drink water like we humans do when using a straw, "they suck" instead of filling there beak and tipping there head backward like other birds do, so the water would need to be atleast 2 inches deep.
Not being a banded bird more than likely this bird (might) belong to a Pigeon Fancier that keeps pigeons but doesn't band them, or the bird is Feral, Feral means FREE, in any case "you have a vistor" and by all means "please keep offering seed and your kind ways".
I can tell you how to catch the bird, but if the little one isn't banded there would be no way to track down the owner, all one could do is catch the bird, keep him/her safe and ask around and or post flyers "like one would do when having a garage sale" to see if anyone close to you is free flying Pigeons.
Maybe you can ask around at your local pet shops and or garden centers where folks buy seed, Maybe they can tell you if there is a person that keeps pigeons close by you, or post a few flyers up around your neighborhood asking if there is someone missing a Pigeon.
Thank you kindly for all you are doing to help the bird survive each day, a cool drink of water would be greatly appreciated.
Good Luck.
Arty/BrokenWing
P.S. thank you Camille for bring this post to my attention, was taking a nap.
