#1 | | | Back from Bird Show! Hi everybody! I had a lot of fun at the bird show, although disapointed. They've raised the prices on entrance fees, no longer send $1 off coupons and there were only a few vendors there. However I got Lucy lots of stuff! We got a big rope perch, a couple grooming perches and some toys. I put Harley back in the corner cage, I may end up keeping it, and Lucy in the dome to get her into a larger, nicer, non-rusty cage. I did not feel comfortable with the paint chipping. I think I'm going to give it to a rescue; it can be repainted but I don't want to deal with it (don't have time) and since it was given to us, I would feel wrong selling it.
I also got to hold and meet a Hawk headed parrot for the first time! OMG, it was so sweet and was such a cuddler! If I had $1400... I was shocked how small they really are though! My mom nearly (literally) put a deposite down for a baby CAG. This baby was so sweet! He sat there and let everyone pet him and my mom was just in love! I told her how Echo-Bella would love a friend! I also committed a crime, lol! I got my little broter hooked! He now wants a sun conure after having one 'suck on my finger'. Mom said no, I said maybe. Maybe one day he'll be able to have his own bird... My grandmother might be willing to give us two of her lovies, but we're a little maxed out as far as birds, and there is no place to keep another bird in the very near future.
So I got home, cleaned the dome and made Lucy the most awsome room! I hung a big plastic chain in the middle, big rope perch and lots of toys! She really likes it and loves all the room! I'll try and get some pictures later when the glare is not so bad I wish there were more things at the show. I took lots of pictures of different toys/perches to make and will be ordering more! I think my mom and I have gone a little crazy with this bird thing!

I was leaning torwards a Caique or IRN as the next addition, though that will be a LONG time away, but you never know. I like how Caiques are good with just about everbody. If we were to add another bird, it would be my littlest brother's bird (well, not really, but he get's to call it that, lol!) but like I said, long time away! |

They've raised the prices on table charges and even the vendors who are at every bird show didn't show up. Maybe it's just because this was the first, but hopefully the next will be better. There's also another couple running a seperate bird fair in FP, which is huge as well. Can't wait till the next though! |

As for the birds themselves, it's always worn out breeder birds, 'tiels, budgies, lovies, finches and GCCs at the local shows. Judging by the number of the little guys there, you'd think there would already be enough of these particular creatures in the world already, without breeding a zillion more in copious amounts. One rarely sees the big guys there, anymore. I understand why, but seeing the same ol' birds and the same ol' vendors there gets kind of boring after awhile. One also has to wonder why the breeders of the smaller birds apparently aren't as worried about their exposure to pathogens as people who breed the larger (and usually more expensive) breeds are? |
