#1 | | | Camille & Susan Please Answer some questions for me please?
Please be as imformitive as you can.
How is your bird of peace doing?
Biting?
Mess?
Loyalty?
Cage stress if any?
For the most part how does your Pigeon do during out of cage time?
If you take your bird outside, do you worry about clipping his/her wings?
What about a harness?
Do you fear you will loose your bird?
Can you compare your new friend to other birds you have?
Do you have any complaints?
I also would like to hear your overall experience with the bird of Peace.

How is your bird of peace doing? Mira is doing fantastic. Most of her baby traits seem to be gone. She sounds like an adult pigeon, although I can easily tell her "voice" from Mollie's without looking. She is fairly clingy. She doesn't care to go off flying and exploring on her own like Mollie does. She will sit on a fence near me, on my shoulder or arm, or explore a little on the ground near me. She loves everybody (except for Mollie ), and, like Mollie, shows little fear of the dogs and cats. She's also getting so big!
Biting? Never. Although she does like to chew on shoelaces and print/pictures on t-shirts.
Mess? manageable : ). She (or he...) is actually slightly messier than Mollie. She poops a lot more, which is probably due to her younger age.
Loyalty? She is very loyal. I've been trying to remember how Mollie was when he was younger, but it was so long ago. Mollie is very loyal too, but tends to do the male pigeon strutting and biting a lot more! I hope Mira stays sweet forever!
Cage stress if any? I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this. Mollie LOVES his cage. Often he doesn't care to come out, and usually he is always ready to go back in. Mira isn't quite so independent, so it's a little harder to de-attach her from me to get her back in their cage, but she never seems 'stressed' about it. Of course when they see me coming they fly/run to the door, but when I observe them without them seeing me they appear very comfortable.
For the most part how does your Pigeon do during out of cage time? Excellent. She tends to stay where I put her, unless I get too far away and then she will fly to me. She is fairly clingy, and doesn't care to go too far on her own.
If you take your bird outside, do you worry about clipping his/her wings? I never intend to clip her wings
What about a harness? I think that would be fairly comical...Seriously though, I won't rule that out for the future. At home on the farm it's not necessary.
Do you fear you will loose your bird? Do you mean from flying away? Never. Mollie has been free flying for a decade, and I have my doubts that Mira would ever go anywhere on her own accord. I always keep my eye on them when they're out, and in Mira's case I'm rarely more than 10 feet away. Should they happen to take off, the nearest town is 15 miles away, and we're all fields and plains. It would be hard to lose sight of them.
Can you compare your new friend to other birds you have? Mira is incredibly sweet. She's so very innocent. She is the cuddliest of my 4. She's the worst flier , but surely that will improve somewhat as she gets older and practices.
Do you have any complaints? None whatsoever.
I also would like to hear your overall experience with the bird of Peace.

How is your bird of peace doing?
Biting? A little pecking but I think he is just looking for food. Mess? Not at all. Loyalty? Gem follows me around and rairly leaves my site. Cage stress if any? Only when he sees me...he wants out. For the most part how does your Pigeon do during out of cage time? Gem is only in a cage for rest /sleep time or, if the kids are here. If in the house Gem takes short flights to and from the table, counter perch...also loves to walk around.
If you take your bird outside, do you worry about clipping his/her wings? I would never do that...none of my birds wings are clipped. What about a harness? That is funny you should ask. I have already tried a harness and he doesn't seem to mind. It was just an experiment but I will probably put it on him if taking him somwhere. Do you fear you will loose your bird? At first I was really worried and leary about taking him out. Now, he is outside whenever I am which is much of the day. He follows me around the yard then will fly in circles, land, follow me some more and then start all over. My husband decided to take Gem across the street to the neighbors...he mad it to the end of our yard and Gem flew back to me. Can you compare your new friend to other birds you have? Gem is very cuddly and lovable. He seems to have bonded well to especially me but my husband to. The kids just love him because he doesn't bite. They will sit outside in chairs placed around the yard and wait their turn for Gem to fly to their heads. Gem and Boca are the only two of my fids I can trust to be outside. Do you have any complaints? Yes....I want another one.
I also would like to hear your overall experience with the bird of Peace. As Camille and I both posted in another thread: Having Gem is like no other experiance I have ever had with birds. I have had birds since I was five (and that is a long time) and never have I felt the loyalty that this baby has shown in such a short time. Knowing that he would rather stay with me than fly away, his little peeps every time he sees me, coming to me to cuddle... The kids have no fear of him nor he of them. He was very currious about Turd and would land on her. Turd would lift her head, look at him and probably say; "oh jeez, not another one." I am so honored that you allowed me to take this beautiful Gem in to my home and my heart. I hope this helped you Arty. I just posted new pics of Gem so, take a look at your baby now. We want to see pics of the new hatchling as well. |

Answer some questions for me please?
Please be as informative as you can.
How is your bird of peace doing?Wonderful,he's spoiled rotten, loves his new family.I have not clipped his wings yet because he enjoys being able to fly to from atop our Cockatoos cages but other than that he barely ever tries to fly. He'd rather be cuddled,in my lap or on my shoulder.
Biting? We did go through some pecking and nipping at the hands. He seems to still try to get food form my hands by pecking or nipping. But he's not even year old yet,he's still a baby who exploring with his beak.It doesn't hurt too bad and I make sure to say a firm no when he does it.He is starting to respond to that work and will quickly stop in his tracks when I say that.
Mess?Well he does poop a lot,so cleaning his cage pan every day or every other day is needed. He's a very messy eater,I feed him in a large Tupperware top that he can jump in and peck around. He has to water bowls, one that sits in the water holder and then a big plastic bowl at the bottom of the cage for him to bathe in.He does tend to knock that bathtub over when he's ready for me to get him some fresh water.Which is every day but sometimes I just don't get it fast enough plus if it's not lukewarm he throws a fit..LOL Besides..what bird isn't messy???
Loyalty?Man that bird wouldn't leave my side if he didn't have too.My Lovie nipped at me today and Bob flipped out,he started flapping his wings, cooing and trying to get me to let him out.I think he would have wing slapped her for that. He's pretty possessive of his family. It's not just be that he's like this with..he;s like this with the entire family.
Cage stress if any?None..not even the day he came home.He jumped up into his little basket i put in for him and went to sleep. He also enjoys playing with the Atomic Pig toy that Heather sent him!
For the most part how does your Pigeon do during out of cage time?He likes to run around on the floor, swim in the bathtub, sit and be stroked and scratched while sitting in our laps.He loves to sit on your shoulder,he's heavy but he has amazing balance. He never tries to go very far, usually just from couch to chair and back or on top of Zoey and Syds cage where the cage covers are.He does kind of give me a sign when he's going to poop so I can run him over to the trash can but I'll tell ya..he poops on ya and you know it..LOL
If you take your bird outside, do you worry about clipping his/her wings?I'm not sure,we have Hawks around here and I'm so worried about them that I don't take my birds out too often,I'd love too more but it really scares me.
What about a harness?Yeah I'd use a harness if I had one..do they make them for Pigeons???Man he'd probably love a little adventure outside!
Do you fear you will loose your bird?Outside..a little..never had a Pigeon before and I know my Parrots would fly away if they weren't clipped.
Can you compare your new friend to other birds you have?MMM well I'd have to say he's more like my Cockatoos out of all my birds..he's so much fun but of course he's not as loud as them.Bob is more human,he feels he should be treated just like one of my kids and is!
Do you have any complaints?Only 1..I wish I had more room so I could have a few more just like Bob!
I also would like to hear your overall experience with the bird of Peace.
Wonderful, never would have thought you could have a Pigeon in a parrot cage in the house.Who would have thought they would make such great companions.I know you probably had some reservations about when Abi took Bob and the cage he was kept in but I can tell you this..He is one healthy, happy totally loved and spoiled beautiful bird!Abi and i will never be able to repay you for all your kindness and for allowing us to bring Bob into our family! We love you and your understanding wife..Rose! |
