Literally!! He's been working for quite awhile at becoming comfortable with flying to different rooms and rounding tight corners.

This evening:

Winston flies out of living room, makes a sharp turn left into birdroom. Just a couple minutes later, Winston returns! All on his own!

A short while later, Winston flies back to birdroom. Couple minutes later, he returns again, all on his own!!

He's never done this before, he'd occasionally work up enough courage to round the sharp corner but he could never find his way back himself, sometimes working for nearly an hour on the task (flying down along with rounding the corner being the issue, since once in the birdroom he situates himself up high every time). When he successfully returned on his own both times tonight I was just beaming.

Wow Sarah, Winston has made such leaps and bounds. It's clear that he is truly thriving under your loving care. I just love to watch my birds fly and I am always in awe of their abilities to navigate complex routes. Congratulations, Winston!!

Aww, thanks, Kelly. It's just amazing watching him come more and more out of his shell. I truly look forward to the day when he can join Jerry in mad racing laps around the house! He's a ways from that still, but it will come.

YAY Winston!!!! Good for him! It is quite cool to be able to have them realize that they can do something - you can just see them strutting with pride.

That's great!! I wish I had a bigger place so Ollie could navigate easier. She does very well, but she's never flown from one room into another and then back again.

I'll bet this is doing wonders for his confidence!

Sarah, Winston sure must feel proud. It is so exciting when our fids fly and do it well. Winston must be happy to be able to fly around so freely.

I'm surprised that Ollie doesn't return from another room - you think it is a navigational issue as well?

Just goes to show that flying is not something that all birds automatically do perfectly from the start. Flying is 2nd nature to Jerry, but Lulu and Winston have both had to work hard at their flying skills.

I sure hope that Winston is proud of himself - I gave him so much praise and he had sort of a dumbfounded look on his face. I think he still surprises himself.

That's fantastic Sarah. He really has come a long way in a short period of time! This has to be a wonderful boost for his confidence. I have no doubt he'll be giving Jerry competition with his flying ability very soon.

congrats sarah - it's such a joy watching them fly... valo is an excellent flyer, and he can navigate almost everywhere in the house. bella on the other hand doesn't look quite graceful yet - but she's working on it.

I could sense your excitement and happiness in your post. Watching our cute budgies progress is similar to watching our child take those first steps. Good job, Winston. Make your mommy proud!!
