Lucy is a total sweet heart, except she is a little nippy at times, especially around her cage. I was told stick training would help but have no idea how. I don't want to scare her but at the same time want to bond/spend time with her without getting bitten (who said ekkies have soft beaks was never bitten by one!) Thank for any and all advice!!!

i did some stick-training with valo for obvious reasons (to be blunt - he bites at times). he was pretty good stepping up before i started the stick training, so i just used a perch he used to have in his cage (i think it's good to start with something that they're familar with it), and asked him to step up.... if he did, a treat was the reward. generally it worked great especially when i took him out of the cage - now, he will step onto an offered perch almost anywhere in the house.

i'm not sure that was much help, since i pretty much just followed by intuition, but it worked for me....

I've never spent a lot of time stick training as Ollie will just do it if I ask her to. If I had to go about it I would do it as Bee described.

I would give her quite a bit longer to unwind after coming to your home. She has alot to adjust to. If she's not wanting to come out or on you just yet then I'd leave her decide at her own pace. I'd put a perch right outside her door to step to and sit on when she's ready.

If she's not familiar with a stick then she's going to be overly scared right now, imo and on the defensive since she just got rehomed.

I agree with how Bee did it. Let her get familiar with seeing the stick first. Next to the cage or whatever so she's not afraid of it. Even where she plays.

My birds love the stick because it means they are going somewhere. Thats all I use it for. Here, jump on lets go....

When I get them to go on me, not the stick, it means lets play together. If they're not in the mood they just fly off somewhere. That's why I prefer the stick "training" because it's a subliminal message that they know I'd prefer they cooperate at that time lol
