I posted this in another forum here, but since most grey owners have purifiers I thought I would ask here too....

I just purchased the Rabbit Air air purifier. It has a negative ion button. Should this be turned off around birds. Here’s what the manual has to say about the negative ions:

From the sound of this it sounds good, but I know I have read somewhere about ozone and ions being bad. Are negative ions different that non-negative ions? Sorry I don’t know much about these things. All I know is my living room has become a birdie dust dust bowl and my sinuses couldn’t handle it anymore, so I bought an air purifier. Any suggestions on how long or when I should have it running? Do I leave it on 24/7 or just during the day when the fids are awake and stirring up dust or what? Thanks everyone!

According to the EPA's website, Ozone Generators are harmful to human health, so I would think would only be worse for birds. The manufacturer of your unit is saying it is not an ozone generator. Whether a concentration of negative ions is harmful to birds, I don't know. Couldn't find much info. I'm not anywhere near smart enough to figure out whether negative ions can be produced without producing ozone. To be on the safe side, I'd leave the ionizer off.

I have an ionizer on my purifier, and I've been told to always make sure it's off.
