Default Fledgling Dove/Pigeon found

On my way home from work today, I found a small fledgling in the road. There were feathers everywhere, and when I picked it up, more feathers came out of it's right wing. It was laying on its side. When I tried to pick it up, and scooted away and was trying to fly, but that wasn't happening with whatever is going on with it's wing. What was I to do! Of course I picked it up and brought it home. Took a pic and emailed it to Arty.
I have it in a basket with two towels and a third over the top. It is the Cutest!
I found a wildlife rehabber one town away and have placed a call to her in the hopes she gets back to me and I can take it to her.
But in the meantime, need to take care of it!
Going to freezer to find the hand feeding formula I have stored there and will see if it will take some according to Arty's instructions. Since the handfeeding formula is mixed with water, do I still need to put water in the basket for it?

Arty - the best I can find is a 5 ml syringe. How much should I give it?

Atleast three feeding per 3 hrs for now, feel the crop to assure it is empty between each feeding, luke warm water (body Temps) mix runny to prevent a impacted crop, there wittle crops just aren't mature yet.
will post my syringes soon, (pictures).

Okay, it just took 3 ml of handfeeding formula - runny.
Was so worried about asperating it!
Went right to sleep
Crop isn't full like when I handfed U2.
Actually doesn't look or feel like there is anything in the crop.

Top syringe, 4-5 full , every 3 hours.
Bottom Syringe 1 full every 3 hours.
This will also depend on the age of the bird, Jans baby is atleast 5 weeks old, the picture is kinda blurry.
Amy's birds are 3-4 weeks maybe...and Amys baby's are very small, so I would use the top syringe and feed atleast 3 full per bird..evry 3 hours...again one will want to check the crop to assure it is empty before feedings....

& Jan, Thank you kindly for calling me, I was awake, and really it doesn't matter if I were asleep, helping is a priority...
This applies to my wife also.
My Rose is on her way to pick up our Grandkids, it was storming here, so I am worried but I just spoke with her and all is okay...
Thank you so very very much for heping that little Dove, you are proof there is HOPE in this mans world....
I haven't enough words to thank you Breeders for helping those while I am away.
I will say this again...I carry a great deal of respect within my heart for the Private Breeder (most) anyways, you love your birds FIRST, you do all you can to screen your prospective buyers.
This Rescue person admires you...I will always stand by you and I pray you allow me to walk with you...
Peace.

I hand feed here more than anything else, over the years I have learned to place the head of the syringe almost into the throat past the air vent and fill the crop with one plunge, very young birds are tube fed for the first 3 weeks.
A person needs to know what they are doing or the little one will surely die from asperating, I have never lost a little one during hand feeding.
Its hard to tell folks how to hand feed, I took hands on classes before I learn to perfect the method when I volunteered at our wildlife refuge.
Sometimes I reccommend the Balloon method as this allows the baby to eat at there own speed but this is time consuming and here I simply don't have TIME.
The Dove you have there Jan should be in wien, the little one is weak, so syringe feeding is a must till the little one regains his/her strength, and composser, then I would offer some "white millet" Parakeet seed as this seed is easy digested and the water will need to be atleast 2 inches deep.

Rehabber called, and she had 1 cage available! Hubby and I took the baby to her which she identified as a Mourning Dove (which is what I thought it was - a dove that is) Anyway, (s)he is safely tucked away at All Creatures Great and Small, for which I'm very happy.
