Default My Balsa Wood toys

I have 2 chewers, and Balsa wood is by far the favorite and easiest kind of wood for my little ones to destroy. Here are a few that I've made that are very easy to make. I buy the untreated Balsa wood at a local craft store and they have long slats of wood from fairly thick to super thin - thin being GREAT for budgies!! And at first I thought I was going to have to dye the wood myself to make it more attractive to them - but they don't care one bit! (so yay, less work for me lol)

Here are some that I made for Lulu. I usually give her varing thicknesses and add things like beads and pacifiers and straws for her to chew too. Take note, though, that she cannot chew through pony beads or paulie rope, so there's no way that she would entirely destroy these and leave just the long chain left or a long piece of paulie rope.

Here are toys that I've made for Jerry. He has proven to be a little beaver, but he only tears through the thin pieces of wood - but give him something like this and he'll have ALL of the wood demolished, in little shreds on the bottom of his cage, in a couple of days. And bells on the end make him happy too.

This one I actually made for Winston to try out (it's a bit smaller than others that I've made for Jerry), but he didn't touch it at all even after having it in his cage for a couple weeks, so it then went to Jerry and was promptly destroyed in a day lol.

What a good idea to use balsa wood. Next time I'm at the craft store, I know what I'll be buying!

Great looking toys, Sarah. They look so cool and interesting.

I have about 10 pounds of scrap balsa wood pieces if you'd like it. The pieces are too thin for all my guys, but the perfect size and thickness for your guys.

Those are great! I'm always so scared to buy things at craft stores like wood, leather, or shreddables. I never know for sure if its untreated or otherwise safe.

Nice going Sarah - you have done a great job.
I like Balsa wood but haven't tried to make toys.

Rio is quite the chewer as well. He's really working on the gym. I have introduced willow branches to the top of the cages - nice chew toy as well - both the leaves & the wood .... & no assembly.

If you can't use them - sure I'll take them! I go through quite a bit of it between Jerry and Lulu. Winston hasn't gotten into chewing at all yet, but I suspect he will one day from watching the other two.
