Default What was in my backyard this morning!

This guy (and many others) has been hanging around on the bins today. He's a good 100 yards away from the house and way up high, but we can only get about 5 pictures in before he takes off. This set turned out pretty good.

This is why my pigeon hasn't gotten much out of cage flight time! The red-tails are always around, just watching, and waiting.

Camille - what is it? Is it a red tailed hawk? I would have thought an eagle...

I have a RTH that hangs out around my house.
Also many buzzards.

Great Pics but if I was a Pigeon and knew I was safely enclosed - I'd be like...Hey Buddy...

Good guess! It's a red tail hawk...we have billions of them! My dad told me that this one has been basically living on top of the same grain bin for the past 6 months, and that there is about an inch and a half mountain of poop caked up there!

I thought eagle when I first saw him because he is much bigger than the ones I'm used to seeing!

Very cool, but scary at the same time knowing our babies are such easy prey.

No kidding! If Mollie (my pigeon) were clipped she would be a sitting duck! I feel a little better knowing that she's been flying for 9 years and is very good at it, but I still do a hawk check before I let her out of her cage. If I've seen any around at all that day, she stays in!

Camille, those are great shots! Mollie is really lucky you are looking out for her welfare with all those hawks around!

Yeah they're thick around here too. We've got feeders outside for the wild birds & we've had a couple of hawks come down & try for a free lunch. Randy usually tries to shoo them away if he sees them & can get there quick enough.
