I went to Sarasota FL in January to see my youngest daughter, and her new baby.
I was gone for 10 days.
The birdsitter who was here is well known to my birds, as I have had her bird in my home for 4 years in foster because she can't have him where she lives. She comes every Friday night, and has dinner and stays over and spend the entire night with her bird...how much more familiar can someone be to my flock.
I've had to go away two additional times since then, one time for a week, and the other time for 6 days.
Sammie, the M2, was very angry with me when I can home, from Florida, and hit me several times (not bite hit) to show his anger with me.
Well, here it is almost the end of June, and he still will not come out of his cage for me. He wants to, but when I try to get him out, he either hits me, or shakes. He will come over to his perch by the door, and will let me stand there and scritch and pet him for as long as I want, but he won't come out.
My husband (who is his chosen one) can get him out, and he will gladly come to me once he is out of the cage, but won't come out otherwise.
It is difficult, because hubby is an over the road truck driver, and is only home on the weekends, so Sammie spends his entire week in the cage.
Wish I knew how much longer this will go on.
I so miss having him out to hold and to love...

Try letting your fid come to you. Sit near his cage, talk to him but don't touch him. Be doing something interesting like stringing beads or eating one of his favorite people food.

I put in Sarasota on purpose as I noticed that is where Ginich is from. I will make sure to let you know when I come down again. No, daughter doesn't have birds - in fact she can't stand my birds! She is a cat person.

Grandma - Sammie is an M2 who weighs 1040 grams, is a wing amputee, and had a seriously fractured foot that was never set (sometime before he came to us). He is nobody to mess with. I sit by him with the door open, and I stand by the cage and pet him, and he just sits there and looks at me, and shakes. I have no idea what the heck happened while I was gone, or if this is simply anger that has changed into being afraid for some unknown (to me that is) reason.
Yesterday, he was a hairs breath away from stepping up, and then drew his foot back, and decided not to.
If it was one of the little Umbies, the sitting next to the cage deal would probably work because they are curious enough to come out, Sammie, well, he could give a crap .
Sammie had a potty mouth when he came to us also, but over the years, the bad words seem to have disappeared except when he gets really really really excited, and then all of a sudden, something will come out.

Well, ya aren't gonna believe it. I had the bird club meeting here today, and there were a lot of people making fussy fussy over the birds, especially Pam (Ty*Lucy Mom for those of you who know her). Well, my birds absolutley adore her. She talks to them in this little bitty teeny tiny voice and the just go nuts for her - they all seem to really like women with higher pitched voices. Anyway, Sammie was just going on and on, so I walked over, offered him my arm, and out he came, just a smooth as you please. Wonder if I will be so lucky tomorrow.

LOL, who can figure them out?? Not me, that's for sure. Seems like the more I learn, the more I realize I don't understand them at all!

Jan, was I downstairs when Sammie came out? I would have loved to have seen that! It made me sad to see how happy Sammy was with Pam lol
