they attach to the cage anywhere really. and are pink , blue,,, or green, or yellow i think,,
they are all like sandpaper..

i read somewhere that they are good for once in a while to file the nails but for the long run not good for the feet of birds.. is that correct???

I've always heard that the cement perches are not good on feet in the long run.

Ollie and Dakota both have Sandyperches and love them. I love them too! Ollie has only needed to have 3 nails filed in the 2 years that I've had her. She loves to rub her beak across it too and do a little extra self-grooming.

It is good if you have a lot of different textured perches in the cage. It would not be good to have all the perches made of sandpaper. If you use a sandpaper perch don't have it in an area the bird likes to sit, like the sleep perch or the food perch. Put a natural wood perch and a rope perch in the cage with the sand perch. I have a perch sort of like a mineral block with grooves on it. My perch is outside the cage.

Smile sandy perch like things..

I haven't bought that one but i am really thinking about it. Having a few short perches opens up the cage a lot & can offer each bird a quiet spot. I like the undulating shape - nice for their feet. 2horse's mineral perch is a cool one as well - i just haven't seen any around here.

I have a cement one - beside the door & is used a bit like a ladder to another perch. [in my mother's Tiel's cage i placed 2 on one side as a ladder & they used it a lot] It was bought to reduce nail clipping but it really hasn't worked too well - however they do use it for cleaning their beaks. I also put their millet treat above it to encourage them to go by.

Like was said before me - they're OK if they are only part of the perch set up & not in the area they sleep. They might be great outside the cage to be used as ladders to another spot - they would use it in transit.
