Last night I came home a little earlier to feed Mr. Stinkefuss since a friend of mine had a BBQ later on which I wanted to attend.
So, Valo comes out of his cage and we lay around a little bit - he's trying to "help" me with my derivations by tearing the notes to pieces and going after the pen, when all the sudden I look at my hand and see bright red on it.... SHOCK. I looked where it came from - first I thought he was bleeding, but then discovered that his poopy was quite red in color.... at this point the SHOCK converted to a HEARTATTACK. He had bean mash in the morning, so no red in there... so I hoped it was from a red pellet that I hid in his cage for foraging... I called my friends to tell them about the poopy-issues (they must have been thinking "what a nut, postpones because her bird poops colors") and that I'd stop by later if the poop goes back to normal color.
So, poor little Valo had to eat all this good food - birdie bread and more treats than he'd usually get - so mommy can look at his poop... LOL. After about 2 more discolored poopies, the next one went back to normal color.... and after 2 more of those, I decided to go to the BBQ - not without changing the paper to white paper instead of newspaper. When I came back about 2hrs later, Mr. Stinkefuss was sleeping and what did I find on the bottom - a big, nicely colored poop....
If anybody ever would have told me to be that excited about poop, I wouldn't have believed it
I collected the redish colored ones and a friend of mine would have helped me look at them under the microscope for red blood cells, in case the color wouldn't have gone back to normal... sometimes it comes in handy being an underpaid and overworked grad student
