I don't know about the rarity, desirability, or high-maintenance factor of ringnecks, but in much of the pet bird trade nowadays, there seems to be a surplus of everything, and I suspect that within a generation the surplus will be as bad as the cat and dog surplus. Are you sure that you're ready to deal with the implications? I mean, someday, one of your beloved babies might end up unwanted, and like some birds are already having happen to them in larger shelters or places not set up to take care of them or send them to places that can, it might end up being euthanized simply because there are so many unwanted pets out there. As someone who once had the unpleasant job of "euthanasia technician", the thought is abhorrent to me.
That might be just one factor to consider when you decide whether or not to breed your birds. |
