Freud's Favorite Feeding Formula
5 c. water
1 c. quick cooking (not "instant") oatmeal
1/2 c. raw wheat germ
1 T corn oil
1/2 t. salt
one 4-1/2 oz. jar of stained baby veggies (containing peas, carrots, spinach)
1 c. powdered milk
2 c. sunflower meal (If sunflower meal is not available, grind 1 1/2 -2 c. raw hulled sunflower kernels in a blender, along with 2 very dry slices of whole wheat bread, to keep kernels from sticking together.)
Combine water, oatmeal, raw wheat germ, corn oil, and salt. Cook mixture for 5 minutes, remove from stove and add strained baby veggies. Then add powdered milk and sunflower meal.
You can freeze the formula in ice cube trays and store the cubes in zip-lock bags til you need them. Refrigerate after thawing, use within 3-4 days. I found that it helped to thin the formula with water a little especially for younger birds.
