Default Stainless Steel...Lara?

Lara- I think I remember you getting a SS steel cage for one of your guys. Am I right?? If so, do you like it much better than the powder coated? Is it easier to clean, or keep clean? Do you feel that it was worth the price?

Anybody who has a SS cage feel free to comment!

We have several stainless steel cages, and that is the way to go. They clean easier, look nicer because over time, especially with larger birds, the paint wears off of the painted cages. We are slowly replacing our painted with stainless.

Hey there Camille. Sorry it took me so long to respond, I was out of town.

Yes, I do have a ss cage for Murray and I love it. Murray is my messiest bird and the poop and food wipes up with half the effort. I'm not sure he can destroy his new ss cage. I previously had him in an avian adventures cage and he destroyed it. It was powder coated. I had to move him from it quickly due to him quickly chipping the paint off of it. He totally disassembled the play top. But that's not what your asking for.

The one he has now is a King's Cage. I love it. I actually look forward to cleaning it and would highly recommend a ss cage, or a ss King's cage, since that is the only one I have experience with. We like it so much, Rico and Rocky are getting the same one. We will probably get Molly an ss cage too eventually.

Here's a photo, not very good, but it's one of the few I have of it.

We are thinking about getting new cages, I haven't really had time to look much though. I really would like to find a good quality SS Double Macaw cage, but I fear the price will seriously dent the old wallet. Right now Jack and Seymour have separate cages and they hate being apart.

Thanks JR and Lara. I had heard they were easier to clean, and it seems that is the case. More than likely I will go the whole 9 yards and get a King's Cage...but it'll be a few years down the road unless Ollie's current one goes downhill quickly.

Ok, Mr. Deal Negotiator here!!!!!

Anyone have any connections or ideas how we as a Board or Board members can get big discounts on S.S. cages - either from a pet shop like B.P. (if they are gonna work with us) or elsewhere if they are not?

I myself can currently get us approx. 40-50% discount on large regular H.Q. cages (if picked up here) but the connection I have/had is not able to get S.S. cages thru the local distributor because the local distributor does not deal in S.S... Local pet shops here mark up cage prices about 100%, sometimes a lil less, sometimes a lil more?

No ideas here....but that sure would be fabulous! Cages, especially SS, are so darn expensive...

Joel,

We may be starting an online store but quality SS cage are hard to find. I can buy Featherland cages through one of my distributors but the qualiaty could be better. Kings cage will drop ship cages with a wholesale account.

Cool idea regarding the on-line store Gary!! I think if we just negotiate around by contacting all the distributors who sell quality S.S., we might be able to strike up a good deal, much better than King Cages sounds like they are offering?

I was surprised to learn that not all S.S. cages are created equal, in other words they all are not what we think they are - there are better quality ones than others - I heard based on the percentage of nickel in the metal? Or something like that? Is this possibly a chemistry question? Or a metallurgy question or both?
