Default The disturbing world of the TUMBLER

I recently rescued a Tumbler Pigeon.
I thaught this bird was injured as he can't fly, after looking the bird over well I found no injuries "yet this bird can't fly".
These birds have been genetically altered to tumble on the ground, any noise causes the bird to tumble around on the ground.
I find this very disturbing, Who could have done such a thing to a animal that is intended to FLY.
I have done reading on this breed of Pigeon, I simply assumed they tumble as they flew just as the Roller does, what a rude awakening.
Imagin a Bird tumbling around on the ground, normally when I see this kind of reaction from a bird I know he-she is injured, well not with the Tumbler Pigeon.
How Sad to watch one of Mothers creations be altered into such a world of no flight.
Very Very Sad to watch.
I see know reasoning in this, NONE.

Man does some pretty strange things for his "amusement", doesn't he Arty. Is it any wonder why many are distrustful of Genetic Engineering? I don't think we've shown the required intelligence and judgment. We breed dogs that can't breathe properly, pigeons that can't fly, cats with no hair. Yup, we can put fish genes in yer plants, too. Oh, and here's an idea! Why don't we feed cattle (vegetarian beasts, mind) with ground up sheep carcasses? It'll make 'em grow faster, and if we stuff enough antibiotics in 'em they won't get sick from that or living in the overcrowded conditions! But I digress.

Unfortunately, the human animal being what he is, there is no going back. Once we figure out how to do something, it never makes a difference whether we should do it or not. By the time we decide, its too late.

We should put a stop to this kind of breeding. It reminds me of the Budgies with extra long feathers - like a Persian cat* - a result of trying to get big feathers on a small bird....

Arty I don't think i could have one of those poor things around - a constant reminder of how dumb & cruel man can be. What will happen to him?

[*In the kids movie 'Over the Hedge' the Persian says he can't smell & his father who was a champion could barely breath. Maybe the children will wake up.]

He is doing fine, I will snap some photos of this wonderful little Pigeon soon.
This bird will remain here with me for the rest of his life.
He appears just like any other Pigeon, but he can't fly, just tumble...
There are 2 Pigeons close to me that may need my help and a friend has way to many birds and wants me to take some, I am guessing around 30 birds.
Just got home from work and found many e-mails with HELP written all over them so Buzy Buzy Buzy....
I have e-mailed everyone, just waiting now for the okay, then out the door I go....
My loft will be maxed out.

Arty; I have told many people about Gem. I was shocked when one of them asked me if I was going to Pigeon bowl. I had no clue as to what that was. It was explained to me that people train them to curl up into a ball and actually take them in their hand and roll them on the floor like a bowling ball. She said they did a segment on one of the talk shows on it. I can't believe this...how could people be so cruel?

I hear ya Susan, Some things that Mankind does to animals really makes my heart hurt.
I wish I could fix things, But sadly I know I can't, but not to try is a Sin to me.
There is a light that shines for them, this light stay's lit all the time as a reminder to them that there is help, there is compassion, there is Peace for them...
That light is you and I and all the other wonderful members here on ParrotChatter.
We need to always remembers this and keep our chins up..."For Them".
All animals suffer the wrath of mankind.
All of Mankind will answer for this in the end, and those judged will be rewarded accordingly or suffer the ultimate wrath.
When all that is asked from me is done, and I can fly no higher, I pray this day His hand extends to welcome home a FLYER.
Walking with you always!
