Default Laker's all wound up + Rio's progress

I used to be able to sleep thru the Budgie warbles in the morning if i didn't want to get up right away. In fact Laker was pretty considerate & wouldn't start his hello to the universe until i was sitting up.

Now there's stereo Budgies. Rio calls from the living room & Laker gets all excited & warbles quite loudly. He still waits to do his full song until i uncover the cage & set it up by the window. But the volume is way louder, just from Laker alone.

Another thing ~ Laker is more in your face but also a bit more wild [wild in that he is much more hyper]. I guess it's his level of excitement. But he's always flying to one of us & hangs a lot more than he did. Maybe he thinks we'll be pulling that Budgie out of the hat soon.

Rio is quite wild. He is easily frightened. We have had some feather fluffing & wing stretching but mainly he's on the alert.
But he's also willing to try everything i give him. Today he had Mango & Parsley. He does step-up but still doesn't connect the words with the action. He does a very fast lap around the bottom of the cage when I put things in there. I guess he's used to running away.

About Laker's reactions - very interesting! He seems much more in-tune with the new noises than Jerry ever did.

And about the noise level, I never thought that Jerry was ever very loud - and he still isn't LOUD, persay, but with Winston here they are constantly chattering! Jerry actually sounds like a budgie again somewhat and he still puts English and Tiel in between everything too lol. But they are pretty much nonstop chatterboxes except when it's naptime. And even if it's only Lulu's naptime they don't let up - poor Lu!

I'm sure Rio will calm down eventually, he's still getting used to you and his new home That's great that he's already trying new foods (maybe HE can show Laker how it's done! lol) and stepping up despite not knowing the words.

Default Update

Last evening we felt badly that Laker was calling out to us from the back of the apartment - we usually bring him into the living room to watch TV if we are all there. Rio was getting all the attention.

When i went to the back - there he was in Jack's room hanging out on the top of the trellising that's beside the door. He can see down the hall from there. So I asked him if he wanted to come with us & he hopped on my hand & stayed with me all the way to his cage. I closed the cage & then went & moved Rio to the office. Laker was very pleased to be hanging in the living room. I had done this at lunch too - as he's been missing that attention as well.

I thought everything went well & my son helped me switch them back at the end of the movie. But when he let Laker out he flew back to Jack's room & then decided he was flying to the living room. I had installed a trellis divider at the front door to our apartment to create a small entrance - & that's were he landed - it's similar to the bedroom one. It is directly across from the book case that Rio's cage is on.

So they saw each other. Today Laker hasn't flown back into the living room but the calling to each other is intense.

This is not the best place to do a good quarantine!

I think it sounds very promising that they keep calling to each other. How did they both react to seeing each other?

Rio was very quiet - afterwards - just staring at us.
He's much calmer every day - this doesn't seem to have made him any more upset with us - he does look for the secret exit in his cage a lot.

Laker - well - he's a real velcro bird all week - he's very hyper & follows us everywhere he can. & extra vocal.

So funny that you have 2 birds who can't wait to get out of the cage and my two are so cautious I went straight to Yoga last evening and Dave is in charge of the birds on Tuesdays - he said that it took Winston 30 minutes to hop out of his cage! (and actually that surprised me because if he doesn't come out right away Jerry usually goes into his cage - not to play with Winston - but to play with his toys!! and then Winston usually comes out and Jerry stays and keeps playing with his toys until I kick him out of Winston's house )

Any word when you think he'll come out of his cage?

Default Out of the cage

Out of the cage - Today!

I opened the cage - he didn't seem to want to come out. I put my hand in & pulled him out. He sat there for a minute & then took off. Round & round the room - Jack's small room 8'x12'. I tried about 50x's to get him to step-up onto my hand, but he just kept flying.

I was getting pretty dizzy - very small room with one big window - he just kept landing on the roll-up drape, the light fixture, the air conditioner/heater grill, the 2 hanging mobiles, the dresser - you get the picture - Oh & i could have taken a photo he was in the air a long time. He corners really well - even went into the closet & out again.

But eventually i think his energy was spent. He finally stepped up & went into the cage. About a 1/2 hour later i let him out again & put him on the bed. He hung around a bit & when the phone rang & I had to get up he started to fly around again but he only did it for a bit & then stepped up - then back in the cage. (I think they were chasing him all over - he really had no idea what I was up to)

I gave him some tomato & brown rice for lunch - he tries everything!
