Default Shooting parrots!

I have to tell you this story. My husband came home from the bar tonight with a story he had to tell me.

You all may know that there are thousands of wild Ringneck Parakeets in London. Recently, they have been talking of culling them because they are crowding out native birds (sounds racist to me!). I have been worried about this.

Anyway, my husband heard this guy he kind of knows at the bar bragging about tomorrow how he was going on a 'parrot shoot'. You may know that England has a history of hunting birds - pheasants, etc. Also, the British often talk about going on 'a shoot' when they go out to hunt. My husband was so angry, and so sad - my husband now adores parrots and birds in general. He was GLARING at this guy. And the guy was BRAGGING about it . My husband was ready to say to him, "So, will you feel like a real man after you kill some parrots?!"

His friends asked why he was so angry. My husband explained that he thought it was disgusting that someone was going out to murder parrots for fun, overpopulation or not. Then, his friend explained: "He's not going on a PARROT SHOOT! He's going to jump out of a plane in a PARACHUTE!!!"

THank god. My husband had almost started a fight with him! It turns out he's doing a parachute jump for charity! My husband came home with the color drained out of his face, but is now laughing about it.

I thought it was a joke at first, because I heard a joke like that before. Can you believe it?

OMG! Hey, you can't blame him for reacting that way, I can easily see myself in a situation like that. Luckily the other guy didn't have a short fuse!

Well I for one would have smacked that fellow silly anyhow for being stupid enough to want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

I was right with you Jim! My wheels were spinning; is there any way we can stop this before tomorrow???!!!

Michele, I'm glad your Husband stayed cool enough to hear the whole story, but I agree with Mike, WHY would anyone jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

That is hysterical!!

This story reminds me of the time I was working in Houston and my boss at the time was big into horses. He had just purchased a mare with some extraordinary bloodlines and paid a handsome price for her. At around the same time, Houston had elected its first female mayor. Well, one morning I was in his office and he was speaking to a new major client on the speaker phone. When the client asked how he liked his new "mayor", my boss thought he meant "mare", and went on to say that she was a sassy little thing, and needs to be shown yet who is boss, but that she really seemed to like it when he rubbed her behind her ears!! There was dead silence for a few seconds. Finally the client cleared his throat and spoke up, saying , "well, that's pretty interesting. Didn't realize you were so close to your new mayor, Stewart". It took a couple more humorous exchanges before it finally dawned on my boss that the client was talking about the MAYOR and not his MARE. I was rolling on the floor!
