Talking Bathing ~ an introduction or an initiation

introductions or initiations ~ it's learning all about baths

Background
Laker doesn't bathe to my knowledge - at least not that i've seen. He also really hasn't gotten into showers either - not when i compare Alice the Tiel's blissfully saturated body & feathers + her ecstasy. He'd rather run away.

In the last month we have been making progress - he has hopped in the bathroom sink 2x's & doesn't seem to frightened - just not really knowledgeable about how to get the job done. He kind of squats & quivers but that's it.

On the weekend i brought out this bowl & put it in the window. The following photos are from that day. The plan is to present him with the bath every morning. Today i splashed a lot & he liked that.

Here he is with his pool ~ He likes to get all the toys out of the water.

I think he's warming up to bathing quite nicely! Good idea with the toys too. Those are nice pics with the sunlight coming through.

Jac, no idea if this would apply to Laker as well, but Quito likes her bath water cold and deep. An inch of water and she's not interested. Enough so she can barely touch the bottom without floating, and what I would think would be too cold, and she's ecstatic!

Really! thanks Nate.

Strangely, i did add more water today - but the little devil just played with the toys from outside the water bowl. I swear he's testing my patience.

The water is filtered & room temperature. I had pre-warmed the bowl, but heck - less steps is cool with me.

For some reason i can't locate my paint tray - thought i'd try that as a pool next. Will probably buy one just for him - one for a 7" roller.

I thought a roller tray would be a great thing to set on the floor of Quito's cage. That was until I put water in it, walked over to the cage, and discovered it was too wide to fit through the cage door! (Duh!) It was also too large to fit in the sink, so I gave up on the idea. A smaller one like you mentioned might be just the ticket though! To be honest, Quito's favorite bath tub is still her water bowl.

funny - valo is the same.... he doesn't like his bath if it's too warm - i call it "crisp temperature"
he loves to bathe in the sink - he gets in the mood when he hears the water running, and then floats around once it reaches his perfect depth....

birdies

seems laker is making good progress though.... i had to try a bunch of different things with valo (he didn't like the dish). laker's a cutie... just can't see enough pics of him

That's interesting about the cold water. Jerry seems to like the water warmer - and he does take showers with me and I can't stand it ice cold - I make it as cool as I can tolerate, but it is still warm.

I have noticed that none of my guys will bathe 2 days in a row. Lulu refuses, Jerry doesn't get excited, and when I tried to mist Winston two days in a row he flew away.

valo's rhythm is completely random - sometimes he bathes every day, 2x/day, then there's 4-5days where i can't get him interested at all....
