Default Is it Possible?

Well, as some of you know, i had a bad ase of poison ivy on my face (got it from the dogs). I'm on meds as my face was really swollen, but it's getting better. I've been avoiding touching the birds to a minimum as I worry that they could catch it. Is it possible? All I had to do was cuddle up with the dogs and then I broke out (never doing that again). So, what do you think?

I wouldn't think they could catch it, but I am not sure. Sorry about the poison ivy, I got it on my face once too and I looked pretty scary- my brothers still like teasing me about it, lol. I hope it clears up soon.

I wouldn't think they could catch it either, but I'll try to do some searching on the internet for some information.

Thanks! Yea, it's not too fun! I get it every year, despite not even going near it. It's like I can look at it and get it...

Thanks again!!!

Good luck! I got so bad that I would end up on steroids for 4 - 6 weeks every time I got near poison ivy. I have friends who would get it from walking near it and having the volatile vapors touch them. Yuch!!!

Yep, steroids for me! Also the medication to help get rid of the stuff... YUCK! Not too itchy, just kinda stiff!

I can't find anything. I'm sure it can't be spread though.

Why not just call your AV and ask if either the meds or the poison ivy are transferable to your birds? Then you'll know for sure one way or another :-).

Me too! I remember those days when I was younger - every year the same thing - I'd even get it in my eyes! I don't envy you. Hope the itching goes away quickly.

As for the birds, that's a good question. Not sure I can help you there, but I have never heard of a bird catching it. If wild birds don't catch it, I would assume domesticated wouldn't either.
