Default Meet SHREK and FIONA

As many of you read, last month I picked up 2 foster fids at the FWCAS meeting.

They have been residing in my guestroom with regular forays to the playgyms on the porch. Their diet has been upgraded from only sunflower seeds to everything but sunflower seeds, except for a treat. They have been provided with toys to shred, ring, chew, beat up and cuddle with. They have been given new names because we didn't know their old ones and I waited all month for them to tell me. They have been responding to their new names so they must like them.

Here's Shrek-a big, "fluffy" green Quaker, who is sometimes acts big and gruff in his cage when he is beating up his new bell but is really a softy and would let you skritch and cuddle him all day. He likes to preen me and give kisses, too. He ,ocassionally, wolf whistles but mumbles a lot so ,sooner or later, he will talk. He eats everything but really likes carrot sticks, broccoli, green beans and mango..(Shrek only gets BIRDIEBREAD muffins once/week-I gave him a cone once and he tried to make birdy soup)
Plus he thinks taking a shower is an awesome experience!

Here's Fiona-a litte Green Cheeked Maroon Bellied Conure with a big personality! Since she has been given shredding toys, new feathers are sprouting everywhere and she doesn't seem to barber or pluck them. She has one new red belly feather coming in so far. I have found NO feathers on the bottom of her cage since the first day! She is even more adventurous than Shrek when it comes to trying new things. Loves playing with her new toys. Tries everything offered and eats most of it. She also likes green beans and carrot sticks as well as red swiss chard and spinach. BIRDIEBREAD disappears quickly. She makes kissy noises whenever I'm near her cage and will respond in kind to one kiss, two kisses, etc. She steps up, likes skritches, belly tickles and will ride on your shoulder. She seems to be very interested in my tiels as we pass them on the way to the porch.

We would like to keep both these 20 yrs old parrots together, if possible. While they don't seem to interact together as "buddies" , they call to each other, if apart, and I can put them both on the playgym without a problem.

Shrek and Fiona are ready for their new FOREVER home. Neither is afaid of my 50 lb dog or the vacuum cleaner. Neither has tried to seriously or agressively bite me since the beginning although I have been warned a few times. They are both very gentle and easy to handle so I would think they might be good with children also. FWCAS only adopts to FL residents so we can make before and after home visits. Contact Lynda (lynjupiter) or me, if you have an interest.

Gini, I can't get over how much better they look compared to when you first got them! Its so great to hear how their personalities have bloomed as well. Probably just as well I don't live in Florida......

Gini - thank you so much for taking such great care of these poor birds! How people can care so little is beyond me - but then there are angels like you to step up and show them what love is all about! I hope they find their new forever home soon and are spoiled rotten!

They sure look happy. Lynda is lucky to have you as a friend.
Not to get off of the subject but...did you still want me to come up there this week? Give me a call.
