Default My visit to National Parrot Sanctuary

For one of my birthday presents, my husband bought me the "Parrot Experience" at the National Parrot Sanctuary in England. The Sanctuary is open to visitors to look at the parrots, but the Parrot Experience, for real parrot lunatics, allows you to shadow one of the experienced keepers for the whole day, and help out with the birds' feeding and care. It was amazing. They place is WAY out in the country (it took me 4 hours by train from London) and I can't imagine it anywhere else - with over 800 rescues, it's LOUD!! They all have aviaries to fly in, or a choice of going indoors whenever they want. It was an amazing day. It was inspiring, touching and emotional. Pics are here for anyone interested:

All I can say is WOW! It is nice to see that people care enough to take in all the unwanted birds. Do they rehome any birds from there?

Thank you for sharing your pictures..

Thats so amazing. Just to be standing surounded by so many birds..... Ok, now I need to think of a cover-up excuse to convince my girlfriend to have our honey-moon in England.... haha.... it'll never "fly"

How wonderful!! Did each one have a story as to why s/he was there? The Cockatoo looks so cuddly and cute... I'd love to go to a place like that...I wonder if there's such a place here in the states...

Michele thank you so much for posting your pictures. I loved every one of them. I'm sure your day was one you'll not soon forget. When you get a chance I would love to hear how they care for them all. Do they adopt out birds when they can?
