Default Need ideas to decorate cage area

I'm hoping to get a few ideas for decorating.

We're going to be doing a little bird remodeling very soon. Right now my set up for the birds is in the front room of my house. This room is separated by acrylic and barred gates and unless you're in the room with the birds they're pretty secluded. I don't care for this set up for a number of reasons and until recently we weren't sure how to change it.

We're going to be knocking out a wall to make our living area bigger at the other end of the house so we'll have room to have their play cages and play gyms in that area. They'll be more in the mainstream of activity and people during the day. I think they'll like this, but I also worry about giving them privacy, if they so choose. Does anyone have suggestions how I can make their area attractive and also give them a safe haven so they're not feeling like a bug under a microscope all the time.

I'm not a big fan of separate bird rooms either, although you have a very lovely setup as it is now! Do you really think that privacy is that much of an issue for them? I feel like its better for them to be where things are happening, unless you have a really busy house, of course. Will they still be using the present bird room for sleeping?

Kita will be fine with the setup and will actually prefer it, she's such a nosy bird. I'm a little worried about over whelming Kady, but I feel it's important move for him, to broaden his world. Kady can feel threatened easily and will grab and bite his shoulder or lift his wing and bite his feathers. So I was thinking if I could offer him a safe place where he can be a bit secluded, it might help him. I'm thinking maybe one of the big fake trees to put on one side and some greenery up top as a canopy?

They'll still have a separate room for sleeping in their night cages.

That sounds like a great idea. They look good and provide privacy. We use alot of those in our birdie areas.

JR, any pics showing that in your setup? Any source for finding them?

I have a seperate bird room and love it. It functional and great. Both of my birds like their privacy. They don't like to constantly be out with everyone, and like the fact that it can get nice and quiet my closing a door.

There are windows on every side except one wall. The windows look out onto the back yard, so the birds can enjoy themselves watching us eat outside, etc...

Instead of using a plain door, we have a half a french door (you know french doors, well, this one is just like it but only oe door). With this, the birds can watch us and we can watch them, but it can get quiet if Harley is being loud or if we have company over. Most of the time, the door is open, so it's a win-win situation.

However, maybe, if you could afford it, do the sliding glass that goes into walls. If your house is getting too loud for them, close the glass doors. They can see out, you can see in, but it's quiet. Unfortunatly, these can get pretty expensive.

However, using the fake plants is also a great idea! But, I thought I would toss in another one

I have fake trees - really nice palms that I got from Bombay (on sale). Looks real. I also have some high end silk orchids (also purchased on sale) that I put on the floor near the cages. They stand about 3 foot tall. It really decorates the areas nice and they don't look so "stark" for lack of a better word. Just don't put them within "arm's reach" of the cage. I learned the hard way....

BTW - LOVE YOUR CAGES!!! Are they hard to keep clean?

Thanks, I think they're easier to clean than their regular cages. It's a hard reach to clean the top of them and the light fixture though. They are vacuumed and wiped down everyday and I dust and wash the top area as needed.
