Default Shreddable Toys

Hi Everyone,

Anyone know of a hay that is safe for cockatiels? My bird loves to shred stuff so I thught about stuffing a ball with hay and let her go to town. I'd like your suggestions on other home made shreddable toys.

Thanks

Hay is not usually recommended for a couple of reasons. First, it's hard to be certain that there is no herbicide/pesticide residue. Hay is also prone to harboring molds and fungus, and neither of those is a good thing for your fid.

Would rabbit products be OK for birds? Stuff like prepackaged timothy hay: Amazon.com: Kaytee Timothy Hay 24 oz: Kitchen & Housewares

Seems like nesting materials for finches like coconut fiber ought to be safe. Nests and Nesting Materials: Coco Bed Nesting Material

Aargh!! I can NOT get the urls to display properly in the post, but if you click on the links it should take you there.

For shreddable toys, also try balsa wood. Go to your craft stores to find it like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc. At Michaels you can get bags of scrap pieces.

Also there is a product called Eco Nest. It's designed for birds to forage and nest. You can stuff this stuff inside wiffle balls with nuts or food and toss the ball in the cage or hang it and watch them go to town.
