Default PVC Play gym for CAG??

I think I've convinced my husband to make or at least help make a play gym for Merlin (CAG) so I'm looking for ideas/suggestions. What diameter should I use; 1/2" or 3/4"? I know I will have to wrap it with vet wrap so he can grip. What would be the dimentions of the wood base to keep it from falling over when he decides to exercise his wings? Three legs or 4? I would like to hang a toy or two from it so he has something to do.

Lots of questions!!!!
Thank you for your help!!!

I've been making a ton of PVC gyms for all over the house here. When I get a chance I'll post them. I have 2 large hanging ones in the basement. Two (that I bought) in the birdroom, one large shower stand in the shower and one large escape-proof stand in the dinningroom and getting ready to make 3 more and a complete huge playgym for the backyard.

For a CAG, I would reccommend 3/4". The vet wrap works great for the gripping and I use it often. One thing you may want to try first though, is roughing it up with coarse sand paper.

But if you do use sandpaper, please remember to wipe all the residue off. You don't want them licking or breathing PVC dust.

Ollie's PVC gym is in that link. She spends a lot of time on it. It is made of 1 inch PVC, and I can't imagine using anything smaller. Her Hoopball is bigger in diameter than the PVC, and she has no problems with that either.
