Default I have a new Sun Conure

Hi Everybirdie~
We just got our first Sun Conure on April 1st. We named her/him Keeya Tucson. Keeya is 10 weeks old now and doing great. Weighed 94 grams when we got her and today she is almost a full 105 grams. She loves pellets, small hookbill seed/pellet select ---it has everything in it. I wanted to be sure to start feeding Keeya the right way so that is why I joined this forum....thanks to RoxieGirl telling me about this site!
Anyone who can give me some info for raising our new baby bird I'd appreciate it! Thanks....

one of the key points for conure diet IMO is diversity... you'll find different opinions wrt diets depending on who you talk to.... here's what i feed valo and bella, and pita (who's with me right now) as well:

*) pellets - i feed all kinds of pellets, valo likes harrisons (from the vet's office or online), all of them like zupreem fruit (petstore) and zupreem harvest, pita also likes the zupreem spicy (all zupreem from the petstore)

*) i feed them a little seed maybe 2 times a week - i don't use any packaged mixes from the regular pet store, but buy the "home made" ones from my bird store....

*) veggies - one of the most important things for them to eat, but also one of the things they usually don't go for right away... best, get a whole bunch at the store and try (grated carrot, broccoli, yams, bell peppers, etc)
you can also buy frozen veggies - i buy frozen corn and peas.. they love it (thaw before feeding)

*) fruit - don't feed too much because of rather high sugar content... everybirdie likes apple, grapes, maybe pear, banana etc... can also be frozen

*) bean mixes - my bird stores carry some bean/seed mixes that are boiled before feeding... they guys love it, but you can create your own mixes (search this board or online for birdie receipes and you'll find tons of it)

*) birdie bread - everybirdie loves birdie bread... pita prefers ginich's BIRDIEBREAD (can be found on this site), valo and bella eat our home made birdie bread as well....

*) scrambled eggs with veggies

Generally, veggies in the evenings... don't leave moist food in for too long (depends a little on the climate, but it's not recommended to be left for more than 3-4hrs, eggs even shorter - i take eggs out after about an hour)... so that leaves pellets and/or seeds (i mix those with rather dry veggies aka fresh grated carrot and chopped broccoli) for the mornings

Experimentation is all - see what s/he likes, and try a whole lot of different things... mine also love to eat from my plate which i allow if it's okay for the birds... newest favorite in my house: rice !!!

good luck - suns are great birds and worth every second spent
