Default More babies - new hatch

The quality is not good, while it looks cute to see all the preening. The candid camera shot of mischief being perpetrated was just too good to pass up. They may not do this a Peanut is fairly effective at informing me when his sisters head for the hills. This time he was too busy preening. Left front baby is my Pinky.

A new hatch today. This baby is yet another brother or sister for Peanuts. The parents are very good at what they do. Four eggs were laid I expect to have 2 babies hatch and grow up. The baby is tiny not yet fed maybe only an hour or two old.

Pinky and the oldest baby were single chicks out of 2 eggs. The youngest which has more feathers than Pinky is one out of 4 eggs - 4 hatch. The parents killed 3 babies by mistake by giving big food. Peanuts parents always seem to lay 3 or 4 eggs and hatch 2 which they raise perfectly till I take at 4 weeks. These parents breed about 3 clutches a year. The others do 2. None breed in winter. I think a lot to do with my low hatch rates is the eggs get baked in summer as the boxes get too hot even though I water the roof. This winter I want to put the boxes out side the aviary so that I can insulate them. I cant insulate inside where they are currently as the parents will eat the insulation. It is only Pinky's parents that aren't the best. This is the first time I had a mistake from the other pair that killed babies. Pinky's parent have neglected babies before but it is the first time they did such a bad job as they did with Pinky. I prefer my birds to breed as naturally as possible and that is why I leave so long with parents.
