Default Bird Grooming Poll

Please vote!

Do you do bird grooming (Feathers, Nails or Beaks) yourself at home, have a bird groomer come to your home or take your bird to the vet for grooming?

That was a hard one to answer! I am a mobile bird grooming service and I do my grooming at home, but I have my partner come over to help me! So I could have answered that two ways!

I selected the first one. Ollie is flighted, but if I ever decided to clip her she would definitely go to a professional at least until I felt qualified to do it myself. I do her nails at home. Actually, her Sandyperch does her nails at home, but every week or so I pretend file her nails to get her used to it just in case.

I take Ro to the Vet now but I'm looking to find someone that will come to my home and do it. Ro will allow me to take food out of her mouth but if I try to file her nails.....well, it's just not pretty so it's best for someone to do it with a dremel ...over as quickly as possible.

I don't clip flights and used to clip nails at home. But I clipped a nail way to short about 6 weeks ago and it scared me enough that both went to the AV to have their long nails cauterized. I also have beak work done at the vet, if they need it. So I answered Vet.

I have their nails done by a vet, none of my birds will allow me to come near their feet! Bud's wings I can trim myself, but Piper's not that trusting of me yet & the tiels aren't very tame yet anyways.

I still have nails, beak, and most wing clips done at the vet. I am a big chicken and afraid that I will clip to short or cut a blood feather . I will sometimes trim flight feathers (I only do the first 3-4 to limit, but not completely inhibit flight) but only the odd stragler flight feather growing in and ONLY if it is VERY apparent where the live tissue stops!

(I answered vet)

I do some myself. It depends on the bird. For Cockatiels, Budgies and the Conures, I clip the wings myself. For nails I take them to my local bird store. Then they are the bad guys and no one gets mad at me for being so mean.
The only time the vet has ever done any grooming is if the bird is already there for another reason.
So, I chose other.

I choose "other."

I bought Schroeder from an amazing store/breeder and they also offer grooming. Since I bought him from them, he gets free grooming for life so I just take him back there when he needs it (in fact, I probably should soon!). They do a great job and offer the free grooming because they care about their birds and know all the horror stories of clips gone wrong and want to make sure their babies are done right
