Default Aviator Adventures!

Schroeder was very well trained on his neon green flight suit but I'd heard so many nice things about the aviator harness (and to save him some mortification in public) I ordered one and have been training him to wear it.

All I can say is I wish the flightsuits were safer.

I have a very good little guy who let me put the harness on after a few exercises but man is it significantly more complicated and difficult than the flight suit! His flightsuit we could just slip on and go, this is alot more involved and alot more that can potentially be agitating and go wrong

I really don't like that I had to slip something around his neck and that its the first on and the last off. With all the belt tightening and adjusting its just so complex I'm really disapointed in comparison.

We goofed around outside for a while but he seemed a little more edgy than he ever has in his flightsuit - but he could have just been feeding off my feelings. He poised in a tree for some photos I could share with you guys and then we went back inside and took it off, which is an equally complicated process relatively speaking.

Schroeder isn't flighted at this time and never took off startled so I can't attest to it in those situations but I'm less than enthused and he was SO happy to get it off he flapped and flapped and whistled it was really funny.

The DVD was nice and thorough and has such beautiful macaws but I have to say I greatly prefer the flightsuit, despite how ridiculous it looks and the velcro tether.

Well I have to say that I've tested the velcro tether lifting things other than the bird and it is really strong, even jerking it around to test its strength. Its got velcro on both sides of the tether that then velcro on to the suit itself on the two flaps. I've never had any problems with it but then again my bird isn't flighted and has a pretty cool head and hasn't startled away yet.

I think I might be sticking with the flightsuit for now. I wish they made harnesses in the same style, they are SO easy to put on its amazing!

I wish I could get flight suit, I have harness and dangerous for my fingers when putting on Peanut. Exchange rate and postage are killers if I buy online.

Hmm.. I was thinking about ordering a couple of aviator harnesses to try, thinking they'd be easier than the flight suit.. We tried the feather tethers, but had to return them. Reason? "We are too stupid to figure out how to put it on"
I know what you mean about the colors & humiliating the bird. We took 2 of our greys to a neighborhood party in their tie-dyed suits. *Everyone* commented on how they'd never seen a bird w/ such interesting colors! LOL
Okay..we got to the party really late, and most of the people were seriously...impaired

I thought it would be easier too, and that he'd like it better considering there is less material. Definantly not though.

Aww he still looks cute though!

Jasmine won't let me set her down on top of the Flight Suit like you have to do. I have to "firmly" hold her on top of it and slip her wings through. However, it's getting more and more difficult to get her Aviator on her *sigh*

I have all the aformentioned items (feather tether, flight suit, and aviator harness) Einstein has never had to endure the torture of getting a feather tether put on, only my cockatiel has had that trauma, but Einstein was patterned to the flilght suit and feather tether from about 6 weeks old and he gratiously accepts both. I use the Aviator and prefer it over any of the others. We take daily excursions outdoors in the aviator and I feel perfectly secure in him being safe and not able to get away from me. I can put the Aviator on with one hand. He lifts his wings just right, bows his head for it to go over and he helps to take it off when we come back in! Hopefully he will remain as cooperative as he gets older! We do use hte flight suit sometimes but mostly for hte poop factor, rather than as a harness, I don't feel as safe having him outside in the flight suit.

I think hte key is offering some nuew stimulating environment as soon as you get the harness on. This becomes the reward for tolerating the process.

Einstein starts flapping as soon as I get it on in anticipation of going outside!

Sorry for being so wordy!

Jennifer

Ollie definitely doesn't readily accept the aviator, but I can't even get the flightsuit within 3 feet of her. I had gotten to where she would play with it, and I could drape it over her with no problems. But once I tried to actually get it on her- that was the end of it. I didn't even come close (couldn't even get both feet in the loops at the same time), and now she knows what that ugly purple thing really is!

It is just whatever they get used to (the younger you start the better). If you had started with the aviatar and then ordered a flight suit, I bet you would be posting about how you don't think the flight suit was as good!

Couldn't you attach a a small D-ring onto the flight suit and use a small cat/dog leash or the feather tether leash to clip onto the flighsuit?
