Alright so everything with Pickles went fantastic yesterday. She was loving and playful. But this morning I went to pick her up from the top of her cage and she litterally attacked me. So I then my bf came over a little conserned and tried to pick her up. She was totally fine with him. So he handed her off to me. She started attacking my hand AGAIN. This time she drew blood in several places!

Okay I'm REALLY upset here. I didn't even do anything to her. And yesterday she was all snuggling up in my hair and letting me pet her. Even my sister and 3 year old nephew was petting her. Not so much as a nibble. I'm so confused! Could it be a hormone thing? Maybe some bad memories coming out because of my friend?

Please help!!

Sometimes they're just in a bad mood! I feel like they take it out on the person they trust most. Give pickles some space and try again a little later. This happens to me on a daily basis, with 3 out of 4 of my guys, so I understand how you feel.

((hugs)) Try not to take it personally. Every once in awhile Zoey has days like that (they're pretty few and far between thank goodness!). I just usually leave her to herself for the most part - and then she's usually back to her sweet, cuddly self the next day. Like Leigh said, sometimes they have a bad or off day - just like us.

valo has his days as well.... generally he leaves me alone and takes it out on my friends and BF, but recently with pita around he's jealous and doesn't get the time he's used to, and he's given me some good bites....

give him some time and space as leigh said... and be more careful when you handle him - when valo has those days, i usually do some step-up training, let him play on his gyms and keep him occupied when he's with me (like making food, cleaning up, etc) so he has something to look at instead of chewing on my neck...

it also helps to take them out of their usual environment - i take him for a walk in the hallway, which usually helps a lot... since you just got pickles it might also just be the change in home and lifestyle that will trouble him a little bit at the beginning... give him some time to get used to everything, but the above things usually work.... oh, and i give valo the "evil eye" and tell him "no" when he does attack... that works well with him too.... (if pickles is clipped a little time out on the floor could work for you as well... valo's flighted so that option is out for me)

good luck, and let us know how it goes! don't worry, he'll be fine once you guys are more used to each other... but GCC do have the reputation of being nippy, so you might have to find a way to deal with his moods... nevertheless, i wouldn't trade valo for ANYTHING - he's the best and the love of my life

Gosh it's just so upsetting. I just want her to be happy and like me! lol I guess I"m a little jealous that she went nutso on me and not at all on my bf.

Dont take it personally they sometimes also dont want to be touched at certain times of the day.

Pickles has also had a huge upheaval in her life the last couple of days. She loves you, but she might feel weird because she's not at 'home' - even a bad home can feel secure : "better the devil you know". I don't know about that species, but from what I've read, all parrots like routine and a certain predictability. Maybe it's just settling in nerves.

Please don't doubt your decision. You're doing the right thing for the little green one. Give her a couple of days.

Oh I never doubted my decision for one minute. I was just sad that she bit me. I still love her to pieaces! I won't be done with work til 6 hours from now. But I'll let you all know how she is tonight.

I know it is hard not to, but don't take it personally. Just like humans, they have bad days. I cried last week when Doyle took his frustration out on me. It makes you feel awful like you are doing something wrong and they aren't happy. But the next day he was fine and back to his snuggly old self. Be patient and remember that even if she is alot happier with you, it is still a major life adjustment to go to a new home. We had a honeymoon phase with Danny that lasted all of a day, he let us hold him and he stepped up. Your little one could be a little scared and nervous of her new suroundings.
