Default Just back from the AV

I took Ixchel and Yache in for their new bird checkups. So far, so good! The AV was impressed with their general temperament, especially Ixchel who happily went to him. Yaxche is more reserved.

No bacterial infections, they got wormed and psittacosis tests which we get the results tomorrow. So everyone pray they come back negative!

I got lectured for feeding seeds instead of pellets even though they get veggies too. He also recommended that I make sure they bond equally to both of us so they don't think of us as mates and overbond.

Yay!! Tiki - is that a common practice to deworm the birds? I've never done that.....

On a more morbid note
- i always assumed i got my barn cats de-wormed when they moved in to be house cats, because of the mice & birds they were eating ......

Is de-worming a common thing? I'd like to know too.

The AV nurse called while I was at work!! NO PSITTACOSIS!!!

My babies are healthy and I am free to socialize them with the others! I still won't put them in the main aviary but start bringing Chaska and the others to meet them in the bedroom. These two aren't territorial, they are really sweet! I am just so happy they are healthy!

Bee, deworming is commonly done in Australia because most breeders have outdoor aviaries and many wild birds flying around. They just pick up worms sometimes. Once they are moved to a closed, indoor home, they don't need it anymore.

Yeah, the last think Chaska wants is another bird in the house. I'm bringing her in the bedroom on the weekend to get to know them under supervision. Then I think I will put Ixchel in the aviary and leave Chaska and Yaxche in here for a few days and then switch them again. The idea is so they get to know each other individually and not get too bonded to each other but get along with everyone. I have no doubt these two will get along with other birds, they accepted each other straight away!

I need some alone time with Yaxche. The vet thinks he is more like 6 months old because he is starting to moult. The other thing is he was very impressed with how well controlled their flight is. They were never clipped and obviously had lots of flight pracrice with the breeders before I bought them.
