Default Storing Pellets

I've always heard the proper way to store pellets is in the fridge or freezer. I keep Ollie's in the freezer. Does anybody else do this? Is it overkill?

I keep my pellets and seed in the fridge. I guess I heard they stay fresher that way?! I don't remember. I just know we got those evil bugs in a bag of pellets we had kept in the cabinet once - and that was enough for me!

freezer first, and then move a small amount to the fridge, and then into their room cabinet as they need it.

It's funny you should post this today, Camille. I buy Roudybush in 50 lb bags and store it in tightly sealed containers in a closet. Lately we've been having a lot of moths that I assumed came from the pellets. When I was at the supplier today, I asked about that and was told that the moths may come from the pellets and that the solution would be to store them in the freezer. Guess I'll be getting a small freezer for the garage, as the one in the house is crammed full.

I freeze my food for a couple of days, then I just store it on the shelf. Maybe I should be keeping it at least refridgerated?

depends on how much I get. The blends I get what won't be used in a week gets frozen. Regular pellets like Golden'obles I don't freeze.

I get Zupreem in 3 pound sealed bags, so I don't freeze them. When I open a bag, it goes in a tupperware type container that seals well and has a sort of spout to pour them with. That lasts about 2 weeks so I don't bother to refrigerate it.

Always wondered, it seems to me that freezing a dry product like that would be counterproductive because wouldn't you introduce moisture from condensation when you thaw it? Does that happen, or am I the one who is "all wet"?

I don't really thaw them...I get the pellets right from the freezer and put them in Ollie's bowl in the morning. They don't ever seem to be moist at all.

(I also buy the 3lb sealed bags of Zupreem).

With just one bird- nothing is ever gone in a week! I guess freezing is the safest way. I just wanted to make sure that keeping them frozen wasn't "ruining" the pellets in any way...

We go through pellets really quickly, so I don't refridgerate my pellets. I swear we go through that 3lb bag of Zupreem in like a week or week in a half max. I don't know where it goes because they eat alot of fresh foods.

I store mine in the bag or in plastic sealed containers.
