Default Cosmo...good news!!!!!!

i went to see him after work but i called the vet on my breaks ...on my first they had to handfeed him formula ...on the second the vet wanted to talk to me...i told him i would be in after work so he stayed....when i got there he was nibbling on pellets....well the good news he doesnt have asper ...the symtoms he displayed and some of the blood work is why he was leaning towards asper...i asked then why all the heavy breathing and some of his blood work was even higher than normal...he has a very bad respitory infection . also that he had the infection in nov and it may not of gone away completely and that is my fault not the vets...i didnt take him for the recheck but im just glad its not asper...another good news the vet said since he knew he scared the crap out of me he wont charge me for the hosp stay ... he wants keep cosmo at least until monday hes going to keep him on the neublizer machine and wants to monitor him just to be on the safe side......i couldnt tell u how grateful i was that it wasnt asper...i hugged him ...i didnt want to leave....besides my kids ..he is my heart......i just wanted to thank everyone who helped me....there are so many of you to thank ...yous made me stay sane...
thanks from the bottom of my heart....

Animals can catch colds, but not from humans - the cold virus is species-specific (so is the flu).

There are very few diseases that can go from one species to another - e.g. toxoplasmosis; most illnesses can only be passed back and forth between members of the same species.

the only thing I am aware of that can jump species from bird to human is psittacosis. Did he mention this?

and I am happy at it not being Asper as well.

no he didnt mention psittacosis...he did also ask about other birds in the house....but cosmo is my only bird... i had just called the vet but he stepped out my friend said he would be back at 8 so im calling him and he better give me answers or im taking cosmo home tomorrow!!! but im so stupid i should have asked more questions ...i didnt even think of that psittacosis ....i have to go read on it while i wait to call him...maybe thats why my mom cant recover she has been sick for weeks ...
but cosmo hasnt directly been contactwith birds since late october...can it manifest that long....

Great News...

Relax and let the nebulizer and meds do their job to mend Cosmo. Please find out what meds the vet is giving for the bacteria infection. The vet now has the cultures and blood work so he should be able to zero in on the infection! Don't forget to ask for all the records you are entitled to. When the vet gives you medications for your bird, ask him what the net dosage is. The way to word this to the vet; how many milligrams of (each type of medication) per kilogram of weight are you giving my bird. Sad to say I have seen vets error on medications, especially when their specialty is not birds.

Give Cosmo a big hug from all of us !!!!!

I cant honestly say how long is can lay dormant, but I know other diseases can for years.
now, the nebulizer treatments are problably doing cosmo well. If you need a nebulizer remember I have one.
You need to keep an eye on him when he comes home for the slightest of change in him. What I do is listen to my guys after they are covered at night to listen to changes in their breathing. When they are relaxed it is easier to tell, and when the house is quiet.
