Default Pine Nuts for CAGS

I hear a lot of people talk about pine nuts. Are they good for greys? Ollie LOVES almonds, but the kind I have now she often gets frustrated with and drops them before she can break through the shell. Sometimes I use a nut cracker to get them started for her. If the shell is any harder than an almond I don't think she could even get into them. Thoughts?

What other nuts do you feed your greys?

I don't think I've ever heard of pine nuts. What exactly are they?

Parrot Treasure toys is a line I give my gang.
Its a soft pine shaped piece of wood and in the middle is a pine nut.
teaches greys how to chew if they are not taught as a baby.
If anyone is interested pm me and I will send you her address so you can send for her catalog. she doesnt have an internet site, and only accepts checks.
Here is Miss Em pretending she is a woodchic

I give pine nuts already shelled. I do all shelled nuts..my guys are lazy and spoiled! I do walnuts, almonds, pecans, cashews, pistachios, & safflower seeds. They get 1 peanut in the shell maybe 3 times a week. Thats one nut they like to tear open. But for those who dont know, peanuts in the shell can be linked to Aspergillosis if given in high quantity! All nuts are high fat so I only give them as a treat in small quantity!

Actually because they are ground nuts they will contain asper spores in the shell. Peanut shells and peanuts also can carry concentrations of spores. quantity is not really a factor. Just one peanut in a shell can do it, if its contaminated. It's not something that can be easily recognized.
Mine are not fed peanuts at all. They will get peanut butter on a cracker for a treat or a peanut butter granola bar.

I don't feed peanuts either, for the same reason. Pinenuts and almonds for the IRN's, CAG and the Ekkies, walnuts, hazelnut, pecans, and others for the B&G's...but they all have to do their own cracking!

I was directly by Dr Ritchie that a peanut in a shell once in a while will not hurt. And I only buy good unsalted peanuts.

Well, I guess each dr is different. I was told by mine to stay away. since Greys and Zons are the species usually more affected by asper anyway.

Andrew ........its nice to see ya!
