Default Honest Opinions Needed...

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all doing well and the Fid's are healthy and happy.

Right now I have a Tiel and a re-homed Congo Grey who loves my husband, not me.

I am thinking about a Too but sooooooooo many people have said don't do it.

Honest opinions needed for those of you who are Too owners, Pros and Cons please.

I know someone who needs to get rid of his birds. He has a Triton and a Galerita.

Input or Insight appreciated.

They are big birds Karol. I know people who have both. The person with the Triton gives the bird a great home, but its a screamer and the neighbors complain. She has tried everything. Abby here can tell you about the GSC or Galerita. I know someone else who has one, and its a plucker and a screamer. She took it as a rehome, and now she has to rehome it again. They cant take the screaming. And its a spiteful biter with her family. They are beauties though. Really probe the person who has to rehome them. And be sure you know the real reason they are rehoming. Good luck!

Hi Karol. I say go and spend the day with them if you can. Or more. The fact that they scream can not be stressed enough. However, to some people, it's music to their ears. I'm not one of those people.

We watched a little M2 girl for a month that was a LOVE. Sweet as pie and not a screamer, but even though she wasn't technically what too people call a screamer or as bad as say your average too, in fact everyone that I talked to with a too said she was really quite. She was, to me, unbearable. To my husband it was no big deal. But I felt like my head was getting split open every time she'd yell. Even my birds were relived when she went back home. So I say you REALLY need to hang out with them as much as possible to see if it's something that you can take. They are really sweetheart birds. If you can take the noise and the fact that they are soooooo demanding of attention. Definitely not a just for eye candy type bird. This little girl was like a newborn baby in how much attention she needed. But like, I said, so very sweet. Good luck!

Hmmmmmmmmm, hang out for the day.

I do not know if that is possible, yet that is great advice.

I will see what I can do.

Thanks Tullysmom...

I've pmd you Karol, but my saying of the moment is
"think with your head as well as your heart".
A well adjusted, secure, entertained 'too is a delight. A screaming, feather plucking, biting disaster area not so much fun. For better or worse they will try (and often succeed) to run your life. Keep on the way you're going with your research and try to meet some also.

Both of these birds are fabulous birds - I know them personally. This is not the typical "I got in over my head" situation. The owner is on his death bed due to horrible asthma from the powder. He has been hospitalized twice in the past month. If he does not rehome them, bottom line is he will die. I cannot vouch for the noise level; however, I can tell you that these two birds got the best of everything. This poor family also has to rehome their 7 year old bichon, as well as their moustached parakeet. The Galerita is trained to fly and I can tell you this bird is like a giant butterfly - very graceful - beautiful - brought tears to my eyes! So you can discount that this bird is a "plucker" - it's not the situtation at all. Abby - these birds would fit your "well adjusted" category. I am not sure if that will make your decision different, Abby, but I can certainly vouch for the care these birds have had for the past year - in a word - fabulous.

The fact that you know these guys and their background is fantastic. They do sound like wonderful birds who as you said Kathie are well adjusted. Karol I really hope you do look into this more after what Kathie has said.

For me I'm staying away from the 'toos as much as I think they are fantastic birds. After the heartbreak of Sandra I just don't want to be that hurt again. I need to emotionally protect myself for awhile.

I think I am leaning towards getting the baby Grey from Bird Paradise.

I do not need any more heart break in my life.

I live in a town house and cant take the chance with noise.

Thanks, Abby. They truly are wonderful birds and a wonderful family. It is breaking this poor guy's heart. His wife gave him two weeks to call me for help. She finally made the call herself. Said he couldn't even come to the phone since he was so heartbroken. I spoke to him the other day. He sounded horrible.
