Default Winston is doing something odd

Paranoia has set in, of course, as I try to watch his every move but not stare too much so as to not intimidate him.

Today we noticed that he's occassionally (meaning not all the time, but more than we'd like to see) holding his wings out ever so slightly and also trembling a little. He has a wellcheck scheduled for tomorrow at 11am, so that is good at least.

It's scary seeing him act abnormally so soon. But I know he's still settling in, could this be a nervous tick of some sort?

Peewee pulls her shoulders together and it makes her wings stick out when she is curious about something, or concentrating, held in a high position, mostly leaning forward. If she wants out the aviary she hangs her wings down lower, looks like a sad "how much is that doggie in the window look". She is the only budgie that does this with any regularity that I notice.

The suns quiver wings often, begging and excitment. Does he look normal when he is doing the wing thing, it is probably a form of body lanuage that you need to learn to read.

Thanks for the quick response.

He does look normal when he's doing it (as normal as I can tell for only knowing him for a few days now - but we haven't noticed this before). He's not puffed up and he's still playing and eating and being active and chattering.

My husband told me that he got him to step one foot up on his finger for a short time today - I'm thinking that maybe he's nervous and anxious as I'll bet this is the most human contact and attention he's had in a long time, maybe ever.

We're not going to put our hands in his cage any more tonight, I don't want to push him (my husband is anxious to get him tamed but I think he forgot how slow Jerry's pace was way back when).

But you may be right in that it may be body language that we have to learn to read. Anything that's different from Jerry's behavior is raising red flags at the moment, and possibly prematurely.

Ollie does that when I leave the room and she's considering following me when she knows she's not supposed to. She'll pull her wings out like she's about to take flight, but she'll quiver out of anticipation or nervousness I guess.

You say he's not puffed out, but what about the other way around? is he "taut" when he's doing this- you know, like feathers really slimmed down like he's scared or on alert?

I'm sure there's nothing wrong with him and its just a form of body language.

Carmine does that after I put him back in the cage. I'm assuming he's worn out from the 'excitement'.

Tully does the exact same thing that Camille described Ollie doing. Like he's thinking about flying, but not sure if he wants to commit to it. Sometimes he will and sometimes he won't. But he bobs and shakes a bit with his wings slightly out.

I think this is just a case of "new mom jitters"! Be sure to let us know what the vet says after his well baby check.

Thanks everyone. I'll bet it is new mom jitters - the first week of a new fid being home is so nerve-racking!!!

I will talk to the vet about it tomorrow.

I haven't seen him do it recently but I had to switch out one of his perches tonight and I hope it doesn't freak him out too much. I noticed he was having trouble getting down to his dishes (although he did eat pretty well today) so I moved in another rope perch and situated better I think. I moved slowly and explained what I was doing - hope I didn't scare him.

Geez. I gotta just breathe. I want to make his transition as easy as possible. Hope he doesn't hate me for taking him to get poked and prodded tomorrow

I know my guys do it as a 'begging' behavior...they will crouch low and act like they will fly but will only half wave their wings...

Mikey looks so cute doing this
