Talking Winston is home....

Yeah we're pushovers

We went and bought the Big Budgie today. We were going to have them hold him until we can get our vet appt. scheduled, but we just couldn't leave him there in those crappy conditions. So we decided to take him home today

Arty, I just saw your offer of having him shipped to you - that makes my heart smile that you would take him in. But he's found his forever home now.

I have to leave in a minute to get to my nephew's birthday party, but I couldn't wait to update you guys. We currently have him set up in Jerry's old cage and he's closed off in our bedroom. There will be no interactions at least until all test results come back negative, and we want to work with him to tame him down before Jerry or Lulu meet him. We will start working with him from within the cage. More details on the training later, and as I think them through so far.

He's already playing with his toys - they sent his two toys home with him - they're in rough shape but he's attached to them so I want to make him feel as comfortable as possible. I cleaned up the toys the best I could. He's chattering away too, and just got louder in the past 15 minutes.

He lets me put my hand in the cage to adjust his perches and put his food and water dishes in. So far so good. I hope he eats today, we'll see. He's on VitaKeet seed - I'll ask the vet when she thinks I can start to wean him off of that and onto Jerry's diet.

So YAY - we're very happy and he's already stolen my heart - I think you guys already knew that though!!

I knew it, I knew it! Winston is a great name too!

Has Jerry gotten interested in the Budgie chatter from the other room? I know Laker calls out if he hears Budgie sounds on the computer, even when he's in the other room.

I expect photos with the next installment or i will think you're being too cruel...because i can't wait to see him!
Drat that birthday party! hope everyone had a great time but really - this is important!

did I use enough !!!!'s ?

Thanks everyone, we are very happy, Winston included. I'm still at my nephew's but before I left Jerry could hear Winston's warbles and he looked like he wasn't sure what it was. Should be interesting how they communicate with each other between rooms over the next few weeks.

Jac, there are some pics over in my thread that details our visit last night - but I will take more pics over today and tomorrow.

It still feels a bit unreal at the moment, but very blissful.

Tomorrow I will make him a vet appt. and try and get his tests started. Outwardly he looks great, he's alert and energetic, clean vent area, clear nares. He's simply gorgeous

Thanks guys! He's doing great so far. Hasn't eaten though. He's playing and chattering though. And I've put my hand in multiple times to adjust things in his cage and he's fine as long as I move slowly. And I had my hand resting on his perch earlier and he jumped over it a couple times earlier.

I took one of his toys out that came home with him - the bell is really rusty and the base metal of the toy, that is exposed at the top and bottom, doesn't look safe to me. It's a dull dark metal and where it hangs now he can get to that metal. I found a sort of similar looking toy in my stash and I currently have it hanging on the outside of his cage so he can get used to it.

He can hear Jerry every so often, and vice versa, but I don't think that Jerry has put two and two together and knows that there's an actual budgie in there making those noises

And Winston seems to like my singing (why, I don't know, but he does ). When I start singing to him he stops what he's doing and he looks at me.

I am anxious to wean him off of his mirror though, he's pretty attached to it. But I don't want to do that until he settles in more.

And 2horse, we're hoping that the two budgie monsters might be able to take some pressure off of Lulu - so maybe she will like him lol! The deciding factor for me to say yes to Winston was Jerry and his happiness - and I cried over this this morning when I pictured Jerry being able to hopefully have a crazy little budgie to fly around with and play together with. He so desperately tries to play with Lulu every single night and she just has no interest in him and does NOT want him next to her. Lulu seems much more independent than Jerry is, she seems so happy playing and climbing and shredding by herself or else perched on one of us.
