Default Anyone near Los Angeles (east) want a macaw or two?

My son, visiting friends in L.A., just called me. Apparently 2 macaws--1 definitely a Blue and Gold, the other probably a Military--both tame, ages and genders unknown, need new homes, and fast, or they're going to the pound. I've heard about L.A.'s pound--things don't live very long in there.

The thing is, you have to pick them up. I'd bring them up here and try to find homes for them, but it would be much easier if someone local is interested in them. They are supposedly free, and with their cages "if needed". This is all I know about them. My son hasn't seen them--he's just talked to the people about them, and offered them to me. Dog knows, I don't need them, but I'll prolly be able to talk Z into driving to L.A. in an emergency to pick them up if necessary to save their lives. But I would rather see them go to someone who actually wants to give them a loving home, and for whom it wouldn't be a 1500 mile one-way drive to pick them up.

Let me know. I can probably get a phone number for the birds' owner(s). At the very least, I can call my son and pass your info on to them.

I've offered to go pick up/foster place if needed. I'm two hours away with a truck. Lets all hope these guys land on their feet somewhere special!

I'm still waiting for my son to get back to me. You know how 25 y/o single males are--I think he might actually be partying or something at the moment. When I text messaged him about an hour ago he said he was on his way to their house and would get back to me "soon". Not sure if his idea of "soon" and mine are very similar....... I'll answer PMs and get the information to anyone who is interested just as soon as I have it, I promise. I'm so happy that there are people who are ready and willing to foster or give a good home to these birds, sight unseen. The thought of the couple taking these birds to the L.A. pound just sent me into a panic. I've read that 98% or more of the creatures that arrive through the front door leave through the back door w/out ever being reclaimed by their humans, or adopted into new homes.

Actually I don't think the numbers are so dismal for birds (except chickens and roosters) in the LA country pounds. I watch the boards (http://animalcontrol.co.la.ca.us/AdoptSearch.asp) and most parrots, tiels, budgies, etc get snapped up pretty quickly. Some of them end up in my living room..... Sadly, they have less luck placing our furry friends. Don't need to get on my soapbox with you guys (preaching to the choir and all) , so consider yourselves the recipients of five minutes' lecture on spaying/neutering and responsible pet guardianship to pass on to anyone you think needs to hear it! Happy Friday,
