Default ABC Blocks

At the bird fair over the weekend i asked a lady selling ABC childrens blocks if they were just regualr ones or if they special ones made for birds. She said they were regular ones. The dollar store sells a big bag of them for $1 (lol) and I was wondering if anyone had used them for bird toys? Seems like because they have color on them that it wouldn't be safe?

I buy mine online from bird toy sites, but they are colored and look exactly like the kid ones except they have a hole drilled through them.

I buy the regular ones, but ONLY buy ones that clearly state on the package 'nontoxic'. I figure if its safe for a 2 year old to be sucking on all day, it must be OK for a parrot to chew up LOL. But really look at your labels- you would be surprised at how many do not say nontoxic! I have yet to find walmart brand blocks that say nontoxic. I have best luck at Tuesday Morning.

Theres tons of stuff at the dollar stores for the fids toys!! I buy those blocks there as well and drill holes in them. They also have cool link type rattles and I hang them all over the cage like a jungle gym. Even a boomarang with holes drilled in makes a great upper base to hang beads, baby keys, plastic chain link, etc...Ya just need to think creatively! Actually the dollar store just got in the plastic wiffle balls, all colors!! I compared it to an expensive one I bought at a store and its the same ball. So ya get 5 in the pack for $1.00. I string beads through it and hang all kinds of stuff. Ill have to take pics and post!!

most kids blocks are safe. Like someone else said, the paint they use is non toxic because kids chew on them too.

Ooooh whiffle balls! Great idea!!

When buying ABC blocks I'd just make sure to check where they were made. I know that in China and Mexico they don't have the strictest rules regarding lead in paint. They sell crayons here that are made in China and they are real no-no's if you have kids. They're like pretty little sticks of lead. Just a little tip there from a overly sensitive mom!

We buy the ones from Dollar Tree. They say Non-Toxic and have had no problems to date.
