Default Perches....

What type of perches do you use and why?

I use natural wood perches* and save the dowels that come with cages for use as tomato plant stakes. I also have a Sandy Perch in the highest corner for roosting. I add some Comfy Perches for different texture and widths.

What about everyone else here?

*I purchase the already disinfected sand-blasted manzanita or similar types of wood, as I am afraid to use anything that merely came out of my back yard due to parasites, disease from outside birds and the like.

I use rope, natural wood, and sandy perches. Every bird has a variety in their cage. All of mine prefer the rope perches the best and it doesn't matter where I put it in their cage- high or low.

I use natural dragonwood, apple and pine perches for my 6ft. play cages and the long perch in their regular cages. I purchased the dragonwood when I was in Florida and the apple and pine are from my back yard. (I should add, I'd suggest if you're going to use natural branches from your yard choose ones that weren't by the road picking up car exhaust, gas, etc.) I disinfected them in Vanodine and allowed them to dry for several months before using them. Their smaller perches are all bottlebrush and each have a pedicure perch.

Edited to add: Mine seem to prefer the natural wood for chewing on.

Sanded Manzanita, other natural wood, concrete, rope (boings & perches) and Crazy Wood (I think that's what they call it). Think it's some sort of cement composite that looks like twisted wood?

Mainly - rope, pedicure, bottlebrush, and cholla. I do have a wooden dowel in Zoey's cage - but it's not straight - it's kind of wavy. I tried lava rock perches once - Kirby seemed to like his - but it was a pain to clean. I've also used sanded manzanite - but no one would use them unless I covered them with vet wrap. Have a ss platform - but no one really used it.

Ollie has lots of different stuff to perch on: natural woods in many sizes and shapes, sandyperch, rope, bottlebrush, PVC...just about everything except the dowels that come in cages.

I also have lots of diff. perches in Chipper's cage. Sandy for the nails, ropes, another real branch that she loves, a dowel at the bottom for the ladder to be tied to.

I count the swings as a perch too, she is on them also. Coconut swings, shaggy swings, reg. swings with diff. sizes for the footies. Lots for her to choose from. I have my perches high to low. She uses the entire cage. I have play stations everywhere.

Here play gyms have many more perches, etc...
