Default Vanilla Extract and Cinnamon

I know some people put water on there stove and put cinnamon, or orange peels in it to make the room smell good, but I would like to have the ability to do that in my room so I am using a candle warmer to put a little candle holder on and fill it with water. I'm going to see if I can smell it, I will try cinnamon sticks first and then vanilla extract. How much vanilla extract do you think i should put in the water?

I used the cinnamon sticks first and it works great! I turned if off so it doesn't overpower the room. What is too much, too strong for the birds?

I never thought of using a candle warmer for this! What a great idea Shane! I'm not sure about how much is too much...cinammon sticks are okay for our fids to eat though, so I wouldn't think that any amount of smelling it could hurt them. I guess if the scent gets too strong for you, then turn it off.

WARNING: I'm no expert, so this may be bad advise.

I think if Camille is right, if its to strong for you its to strong for the bird's. I would observe the Nair's, and watch for irritation. Also watch for excessive sneezing. If either occur I would discontinue the use.

Let us know how it works, Its a great Idea.

you're more than welcome to stop by for the next batch....

pssst - i (illegally) imported the spice mix typical for gluehwein... comes in tea bags and you only need to add red wine, cinnemon sticks, cloves and oranges plus a little bit of sugar... and you pretty much get the original thing

I agree and will definately discontinue the use if I notice any changes in Jack. I will be a happy camper if it does work! Especially due to the fact that my mom loves fragrances(sp?) in the house and also in the camper while camping, and its hard to fight her against using candles which I don't feel all that comfortable with around Jack (i know the regular candles are no no's but I still just don't feel super comfortable with even the soy based candles with safe wicks).

Give me some ideas as to what else I could use in the water. So far I have cinnamon sticks, orange peels, and vanilla extract. What else would be safe and smell good?

If anyone else tries this, you have to tell me how it goes

The things you listed are all that I have heard being used by people. Actually, I am wondering how the vanilla extract works...I've just heard of using vanilla beans.
